From Research to Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health has been shaped to reflect the mental health needs of children and adolescents in low and middle income countries of the world. It also includes chapters on topics based on research and practice in high income countries which may have lessons and implications universally. The first section of the book takes a child and adolescent mental health services perspective encompassing epidemiology, mental health needs, and selected policy issues. The second section provides summaries of research findings into the mechanisms for problems frequently encountered in child and adolescent psychiatric practice: schizophrenia, mood disorders, and sleep problems. The third and last section is about interventions and practice. It describes the treatment gap between low and middle income countries in relation to child and adolescent mental health and shows how professionals or lay people may be trained to effectively deliver interventions. This monograph has been produced for the 21st congress of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) to be held in Durban, South Africa, in 2014. This is the first congress of IACAPAP in Africa, and it takes place at an appropriate time in view of the continent’s burgeoning child population, significant economic growth and wish to improve the populations’ health.

Shaping the Future of Child and Adolescent Mental Health: Towards Technological Advances and Service Innovations coincides with the 25th International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) Congress in Dubai from December 5–9, 2022. There are three overarching themes of this book. Firstly, the impact of the Internet and digital technologies on the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents, including computerized therapies, and the fundamental role of technologies to advance knowledge in the field. Secondly, a theme on harnessing the expansion of knowledge on psychiatric disorders and their treatment for children and adolescents, exemplified by chapters on different kinds of adversity in child and adolescent mental health and a chapter on precision therapeutics. Given the location of the IACAPAP Congress, the third theme focuses on aspects of child and adolescent mental health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Chapters provide insights into a broad range of contemporary technology- and service innovation–related topics in child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health. These include growing up in the digital age, cyberbullying, clinical applications of big data and machine learning, computerized cognitive behavioral therapy, technology- enhanced learning, lessons from COVID-19, new understanding of the consequences of psychological trauma, autoimmune encephalitis, and precision therapeutics in depression. Acknowledging the global challenge of child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health, readers will find an emphasis on contextual challenges in the field, including innovations for scaling up of mental health intervention in low- and middle-income countries, and research and training in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Emphasizes digital influences and applications in child and adolescent mental health research, psychiatric treatments, and training Highlights children and adolescents in adversity including COVID-19 and psychological trauma Appraises new approaches to understanding selected psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents Addresses the research in child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health across the Eastern Mediterranean Region and training in the Gulf Region

Brain, Mind, and Developmental Psychopathology in Childhood, part of the International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions' book series "Working with Children & Adolescents" edited by Elena Garralda and Jean-Philippe Raynaud, updates the knowledge about connections between brain, mind, and developmental psychopathology. The volume illuminates our understanding of different types of psychiatric disorders in children—including autism, hyperkinetic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and childhood schizophrenia—and the effects of child maltreatment and deliberate self harm. This book describes how to integrate physical and psychological treatments for child and adolescent mental health problems and advocacy for the treatment of children and adolescents with mental health problems.
