In an era of unprecedented volatile political and economic environments across the world, computer-based cyber security systems face ever growing challenges. While the internet has created a global platform for the exchange of ideas, goods and services, it has also created boundless opportunities for cyber crime. The debate over how to plan for the cyber security of the future has focused the minds of developers and scientists alike. This book aims to provide a reference on current and emerging issues on systems security from the lens of autonomy, artificial intelligence and ethics as the race to fight and prevent cyber crime becomes increasingly pressing.

Cyber security is concerned with the identification, avoidance, management and mitigation of risk in, or from, cyber space. The risk concerns harm and damage that might occur as the result of everything from individual carelessness, to organised criminality, to industrial and national security espionage and, at the extreme end of the scale, to disabling attacks against a country's critical national infrastructure. However, there is much more to cyber space than vulnerability, risk, and threat. Cyber space security is an issue of strategy, both commercial and technological, and whose breadth spans the international, regional, national, and personal. It is a matter of hazard and vulnerability, as much as an opportunity for social, economic and cultural growth. Consistent with this outlook, The Oxford Handbook of Cyber Security takes a comprehensive and rounded approach to the still evolving topic of cyber security. The structure of the Handbook is intended to demonstrate how the scope of cyber security is beyond threat, vulnerability, and conflict and how it manifests on many levels of human interaction. An understanding of cyber security requires us to think not just in terms of policy and strategy, but also in terms of technology, economy, sociology, criminology, trade, and morality. Accordingly, contributors to the Handbook include experts in cyber security from around the world, offering a wide range of perspectives: former government officials, private sector executives, technologists, political scientists, strategists, lawyers, criminologists, ethicists, security consultants, and policy analysts.

The Human Aspects of Information Security and Assurance (HAISA) symposium specifically addresses information security issues that relate to people. It concerns the methods that inform and guide users' understanding of security, and the technologies that can benefit and support them in achieving protection. This book represents the proceedings from the 2016 event, which was held in Frankfurt, Germany. A total of 27 reviewed papers are included, spanning a range of topics including the communication of risks to end-users, user-centred security in system development, and technology impacts upon personal privacy. All of the papers were subject to double-blind peer review, with each being reviewed by at least two members of the international programme committee.

These proceedings represent the work of researchers participating in the 15th European Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security (ECCWS 2016) which is being hosted this year by the Universitat der Bundeswehr, Munich, Germany on the 7-8 July 2016. ECCWS is a recognised event on the International research conferences calendar and provides a valuable plat-form for individuals to present their research findings, display their work in progress and discuss conceptual and empirical advances in the area of Cyberwar and Cyber Security.
