"Good Grief will bring hope to those who feel, that because of the sheer pain of their loss, there could never be another tomorrow worth living." - Rob Parsons OBE, Chairman and Founder, Care for the Family We all walk through grief and loss. It comes in many shapes and forms. As a husband, father, son and a pastor, for the past thirty-four years, Malcolm Duncan has experienced loss in many forms. Duncan has seen grief destroy some people, and his own experience of loss and grief came close to destroying him. Yet God has carried him through. In this intensely personal journal, Duncan guides the reader through grief and loss, examining how it changes us, and affirms that God is with us every step of the way. Intimate and well-grounded in scripture, Malcolm Duncan shows us that no matter how dark it gets, the light of His grace will always be there.

A wise, honest companion for the journey through grief Whether you are struggling with your own grief or walking with a friend or family member who is grieving, you know the journey is not smooth or straightforward. The Good Grief Devotional offers wise, honest companionship to those who are struggling with the death of a loved one, a divorce, the loss of a job, or another major life transition. Pastor Brent D. Christianson's fifty-two devotions follow the ten stages of grief outlined in Granger Westberg's helpful book Good Grief, published in 1968. Millions of people have found in it validation for their grief, understanding of their feelings, and a way to live through grief and into a new reality. Christianson begins each stage with a reflection on that aspect of grief and then considers what the stage means for the reader's self-understanding and relationships with other people, creation, and God. Each devotion ends with questions to think about and talk about with another person, healing actions one might take, and a prayer. The Good Grief Devotional provides pastoral care, faces the reality of loss, and points the way to hope. Readers will want to return to this collection year after year as they are changed by their journey.

Good Grief! Using the Grief Sheet to Improve Community Theatre Production was written to encourage theatre directors to take advantage of the benefits involved in a daily written critique of amateur play rehearsals. In over 40 years of directing community and school productions, as well as acting for other directors, I have yet to meet a director who employs this technique. I don't know why this is so, except that it does require a large investment in time. Typically, the directors I have known wrote grief notes and then assembled cast and crew to convey them verbally. Obviously, much time is wasted following this method since everyone has to listen whether or not they are specifically involved. Furthermore, the published grief sheet provides the perceived need for instruction as well as a record to return to, to refresh the memory in regard to the needed improvements, which often are forgotten otherwise. The Grief Sheet is also a team builder, and the team concept is an essential quality of a successful theatre company. In writing this book, my collections of grief sheets have enabled me to relive some exciting and memorable productions.

Unmet expectations and conflicts arise, when a person is hurting and doesn't know what they need, and their loved ones don't know what to say or how to help. By the time author Erica McNeal was thirty-two years old, she was already a three-time cancer survivor, and had experienced the loss of five children, two of which she held in her arms. Those close to her were not sure of how to console her, and some well-intended comments only served to hurt Erica and her family in their healing process. For example, imagine being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, at twenty-two years old, and having your best friend tell you that she wished she had cancer too, so that people would like her. Or imagine being pressured to hold a friend's baby a child that was born the same day you buried your daughter, in order to "prove your love" for the couple. These statements represent only a fraction, and not even the worst, of the painful words spoken to her family while they struggled through cancer treatments and grieved the loss of their children. Good Grief! is a book filled with tangible solutions for determining what to say, what not to say, and what to do, in order to love others well, through difficult times!
