Ken Boa hits the mark. You don't have to look very far today to come across "popular" ideas of leadership that try hard to mimic biblical principles. The problem is that's all they do... mimic. Boa propels leadership a giant step forward with the revelation of the ultimate Christian leadership model. Boa rejects the compromises found in much of today's teaching that force-fit secular standards into a biblical mold—ideas that hover around humanistic ideas of fairness, kindness, and basic morality. Instead, Boa challenges leaders to do a serious evaluation of their approach and to follow the leadership qualities exhibited by God in his Word.

Hello, Readers, To God be the glory. I would like to take a little time to tell you about this book that I have written and how God led me to write it. Over the years of growth, I can truly say I have developed a personal relationship with Christ. He speaks to me; he tells me things that only Christ could tell me. He often gives me messages in the form of poems. That, only God can do! God gives me the words, and I simply write them down. I remember the first poem Christ gave me. It was a home-going poem for my father. On June 19, 2007, my father went to glory. I wanted to say something about my father publicly, but I had a fear of speaking before crowds. There was something about speaking before a crowd that always gave me a feeling of fear. I couldn’t let this fear stop me from letting the world know how I felt about this great man. I needed to write something down to let people know how I felt about him. I experienced a lot of sleepless nights trying to think of words worthy of my feelings for him. Two days before the home-going, I was awakened at 2:00 a.m. by what I believe to be the Holy Spirit. I went into another room, and within an hour, I had written a poem that I felt was worthy enough to tell. The church clerk read the poem and mentioned that I wrote it. I was complemented for the words I wrote. All I could say was “to God be the glory.” Here is the first poem I wrote, entitled “Greet Us with A Smile.” Good night, Daddy, we’ll see you in a while When we get to heaven, you’ll greet us with a smile Mama, Kenny, Bruce, and the rest We want to thank you, Daddy, for giving us your best Go ahead and sleep, Daddy. Go ahead and rest We’ll see you in the morning, though I must confess We’re really going to miss you but only for a while Because when we get to heaven, you’ll greet us with a smile Thank you, Jesus, for letting us borrow him this long Help us to understand that it was time for him to go home But we all know it’s only for a while Because when we get to heaven, you’ll greet us with a smile With all the love that a family could give You’ll always be with us because in us, you’ll always live Go ahead and sleep, Daddy, but only for a while Because when we get to heaven, I know you’ll greet us with a smile In loving memory of John Edwin Longuemire, Sr. May 31, 1926–June 19, 2007

Stories, examples, parables, metaphors, and humor support the sixty-three reflections on biblical texts from the Revised Common Lectionary. The author uses a "theme approach," addressing issues and questions sometimes overlooked in preaching, balancing private, personal spirituality with the social and corporate. Open-minded and ecumenical in tone, ULU reflects the theology of one firmly planted in the Wesleyan tradition, where scripture, tradition, experience, and reason insist upon openness to the new things that God is doing, and where believers seek to work actively for the transformation of creation according to the values and the vision of the realm of God. Twenty original monochrome photos by the author are distributed between chapters.

From young children, with their guileless, searching questions, to the recently bereaved, trying to make sense of tragic loss, humans wrestle with our relationship to God--and with God's essence, motivations, and power--throughout our lives: Why does God permit catastrophe and senseless tragedy, again and again? Is God's power limited in any way? Can He change the past? Does He know the future? Why does God require prayer? Why does He not provide stronger evidence of His presence? Whom does God consign to hell, and why? Does God change? Suffer? What can we make of the conflicting diversity within world religions, of the many gods of different religious traditions? Such questions engage, confront, and perplex us on a daily basis. In this rich, concise volume, leading philosophers who have long pondered God's nature and ways take on these core problems and present their findings in a manner likely to engage believer and non-believer, general reader and specialist alike.
