Our Journey is a true story of how one couple got through the trials and tribulations of dealing with early onset Alzheimer's. When his wife started calling him at work because she was lost while driving around their small town, he started to wonder what was going on. She would always play it off as being tired or she just got turned around. As time went on, this behavior became a much more frequent occurrence. Sometimes he would have to spend thirty to forty minutes on the phone with her, until she was back in their own neighborhood. This went on for over two years before he insisted on her going to see a neurologist at the University of Michigan Hospital. After much testing and waiting for results we finally heard those dreaded words, "your wife has Alzheimer's." This is our story of how at that very moment our lives changed forever. Our family and friends changed forever and mostly not for the better. This is about our struggles in dealing with all of the different phases this disease puts a couple through. This is about my undying love for my wife and how I took care of her for ten long years.

Olivia Chow--Member of Parliament, seasoned politician and widow of former New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton--tells her story in this candid memoir What drives Olivia Chow? How did she emerge from a turbulent childhood to become an inspiring political force? What influences and events have shaped her life? And how is she continuing her quest after losing her partner in life and politics? When Olivia was thirteen, her middle-class family moved from Hong Kong to Toronto, but the transition was difficult. Her mother went from having a maid to being a maid. Her father failed to carve out a working life for himself in Canada. Frustrated and bitter, he lashed out at Olivia's mother, and violence darkened their lives. A rebellious yet playful child, Olivia discovered self-discipline and became an excellent student in Canada, studying fine art and philosophy at university. After graduating, Olivia worked for a time as a sculptor. Then, driven by a desire to achieve social change, the artist became an activist, and she launched her political career. As a popular and much-admired school trustee and Toronto city councillor--the first Asian woman in that role--Olivia honed a grassroots approach and crafted progressive programs that enhanced the lives of others, especially children. Strong-willed, focused and passionate, Olivia got things done by bringing together people from all parts of the political spectrum. In the mid-1980s, Olivia met Jack Layton. Their dynamic partnership, unprecedented in Canadian political life, made a powerful impact in Toronto and on the national stage. Together, they forged a strong vision for a better country and for enlightened political change. But when her beloved partner and political soulmate died in the summer of 2011, how did she find the strength to move forward? What might we learn from her inspiring story? Those answers are here, in My Journey.

On September 11th, 2004, life turned upside down for Doc and Cindy Blackmore. They had just sent their youngest child off to college and were looking forward to their empty nest when Doc was injured in a bicycle accident while on a hunting trip in the Rocky Mountains, leaving him paralyzed from the chin down and dependent on a ventilator. Their journey during the next five years was physically and emotionally difficult, but spiritually uplifting. During their journey, Cindy sent out emails to an ever-growing distribution list. What began as a way to keep friends and family updated on Doc's condition turned into a spiritual touchstone for hundreds or possibly thousands of people across the country. You will find laughter and tears in these pages. The author's prayer is that you also find faith and strength in them. It is exactly as the title indicates-a journal of their journey! Cindy Gittemeier Blackmore was born in 1960 and married Darwin Blackmore in 1980. They resided in Cairo, MO, where Cindy still lives today. They had three children and were married 24 years when Darwin was injured in 2004. Together they gave many witnesses to proclaim their faith in God and to show others how God provided for them. Darwin died in 2009, five years after the accident. Cindy continues to share their story.
