Sunshine Doggies

During my early years, I was a professional singer, wrote songs and poetry, and played piano. A few of my poems were actually published. I became enchanted with the shih tzu breed when my parents started showing dogs. It is with the adoption of My Little aEURoeLuLuaEUR and Beam Me Up Little aEURoeScottyaEUR that I became inspired to write the book Sunshine Doggies.

As events unfold Merit and her kennel mates recognize they are lucky to belong to Tom Coal, a kind and ethical dog trainer. In a twist of fate, Isabel and King, two retired greyhounds, help Merit and her kennel mates navigate the often cruel world of dog racing. Merit’s extraordinary speed creates jealousy in the kennel. The greyhounds’ fragility helps develop a love story between trainer Tom and veterinarian Carol. Merit breaks the rules and falls for a racing competitor and must fight to regain composure or risk separation from her teammates. King’s coaching helps Merit save the other greyhounds when a fire breaks out at the track. Merit encounters her first cat, Swish--her sharp clawed, name calling, nemesis. A sudden event leads Swish and Merit to become allies. Finally, a dramatic crash on the track leaves a friend dead and Merit facing retirement.

Allie and her Octet had been close, happy, supportive friends since kindergarten. Her friend Jen is like her sister. One day when they are all walking home from school, she is shocked to see a “For Sale” sign in the front yard of her home. Her dad is being transferred to San Diego. Jordan introduces Allie to her cousin Greg at lunch. Allie thinks, As Jen would say, he is awesome! In French class Allie meets Amanda and Chloe. So many absolutely amazing, unexpected things happen for Allie in the next few months because of Jordan, Amanda, Chloe, Greg, and her brother Conner. One night, she hugs her dog and says, “Oh, Sunshine, I’m so happy!”
