4th International Conference On Tourism Gastronomy And Tourist Destination Tgdic 2023

This is an open access book. The 4th International Conference on Tourism, Gastronomy, and Tourist Destination (TGDIC 2023) has the theme “Rethinking Sustainable Tourism and Gastronomy in Global Context.” Unlike the previous conferences which were held in Jakarta, Indonesia, this year the conference was held offline in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 16th – 18th October 2023. TGDIC 2023 serves as a forum for knowledge and experience sharing and invites tourism scholars, practitioners, decision-makers, and stakeholders from various regions to share their knowledge, experience, concepts, examples of good practice, and critical analysis with their international peers. In addition to the organizing committee and keynote speakers, the conference was attended by international presenters and participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Switzerland, Thailand, India, and Taiwan.

The book focuses on contemporary research on tourism, gastronomy, and tourist destinations presented at the 3rd Tourism Gastronomy and Destination International Conference (TGDIC 2021). It serves as a platform for knowledge and experience sharing and invites tourism scholars, practitioners, decision-makers, and stakeholders from all parts of society and from various regions of the world to share their knowledge, experience, concepts, examples of good practice, and critical analysis with their international peers. The research papers presented at the conference were organized into three main categories: tourism, gastronomy, and tourist destinations, written by authors from various countries such as Indonesia, China, India, Switzerland, UK, Portugal, and Hungary.

Niche Tourism examines one of the fastest growing areas within the tourism sector. This book provides an integrated picture of speciality/niche tourism as a whole looking at both the 'macro' and 'micro' niche area. It has a comprehensive theoretical framework, and discusses initiatives, policies and strategies adopted internationally. With an emphasis on linking theory to practice, it is underpinned by up-to-date international case studies from around the world. Divided into 3 parts, it covers a variety of aspects under the headings of special interest tourism, tradition and culture base tourism and activity-based tourism.

The papers presented in this work cover themes such as sustainable tourism; ICT and tourism; marine tourism; tourism and education; tourism, economics, and finance; tourism marketing; recreation and sport tourism; halal & sharia tourism; culture and indigenous tourism; destination management; tourism gastronomy; politic, social, and humanities in tourism; heritage tourism; medical & health tourism; film induced tourism; community based tourism; tourism planning and policy; meeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition; supply chain management; hospitality management; restaurant management and operation; safety and crisis management; corporate social responsibility (CSR); tourism geography; disruptive innovation in tourism; infrastructure and transportation in tourism development; urban and rural tourism planning and development; community resilience and social capital in tourism. The 4th ISOT 2020 aimed at (1) bringing together scientists, researchers, practitioners, professionals, and students in a scientific forum and (2) having discussions on theoretical and practical knowledge about current issues in tourism. The keynote speakers contributing to this conference are those with expertise in tourism, either in an academic or industrial context.

Indonesia, the largest country in Southeast Asia, has as its national motto “Unity in Diversity.” In 2010, Indonesia stood as the world’s fourth most populous country after China, India and the United States, with 237.6 million people. This archipelagic country contributed 3.5 per cent to the world’s population in the same year. The country’s demographic and political transitions have resulted in an emerging need to better understand the ethnic composition of Indonesia. This book aims to contribute to that need. It is a demographic study on ethnicity, mostly relying on the tabulation provided by the BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik; Statistics-Indonesia) based on the complete data set of the 2010 population census. The information on ethnicity was collected for 236,728,379 individuals, a huge data set. The book has four objectives: To produce a new comprehensive classification of ethnic groups to better capture the rich diversity of ethnicity in Indonesia; to report on the ethnic composition in Indonesia and in each of the thirty three provinces using the new classification; to evaluate the dynamics of the fifteen largest ethnic groups in Indonesia during 2000–2010; and to examine the religions and languages of each of the fifteen largest ethnic groups.

Contributing to identity formation in ethnically and religiously diverse postcolonial societies, this book examines the role played by creole identity in Indonesia, and in particular its capital, Jakarta. While, on the one hand, it facilitates transethnic integration and promotes a specifically postcolonial sense of common nationhood due to its heterogeneous origins, creole groups of people are often perceived ambivalently in the wake of colonialism and its demise, on the other. In this book, Jacqueline Knörr analyzes the social, historical, and political contexts of creoleness both at the grassroots and the State level, showing how different sections of society engage with creole identity in order to promote collective identification transcending ethnic and religious boundaries, as well as for reasons of self-interest and ideological projects.
