7th International Conference On University Learning And Teaching Incult 2014 Proceedings

The book comprises papers presented at the 7th International Conference on University Learning and Teaching (InCULT) 2014, which was hosted by the Asian Centre for Research on University Learning and Teaching (ACRULeT) located at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Malaysia. It was co-hosted by the University of Hertfordshire, UK; the University of South Australia; the University of Ohio, USA; Taylor’s University, Malaysia and the Training Academy for Higher Education (AKEPT), Ministry of Education, Malaysia. A total of 165 papers were presented by speakers from around the world based on the theme “Educate to Innovate in the 21st Century.” The papers in this timely book cover the latest developments, issues and concerns in the field of teaching and learning and provide a valuable reference resource on university teaching and learning for lecturers, educators, researchers and policy makers.

These conference proceedings showcase a rich and practical exchange of approaches and vital evidence-based practices taking place around the world. They clarify the complex challenges involved in bringing about a holistic educational environment in schools and institutes of higher learning that fosters greater understanding and offer valuable insights on how to avoid the pitfalls that come with rolling out holistic approaches to education. To do so, the proceedings focus on the subthemes Support and Development, Mobility and Diversity and Networking and Collaboration in Holistic Education.

If mobile technologies are to be effectively used in education, how do we best implement sustainable mobile solutions for teaching and learning? The aim of this handbook is to support educators and policy makers who are investing in innovations in digital education to develop effective and sustainable mobile learning solutions for higher education environments. Authors from sixteen countries across the Asia-Pacific region have collaborated to share their experiences with developing and implementing mobile learning initiatives. These projects focus on a variety of aspects of mobile learning innovation, from the trial adoption of existing social media platforms on mobile devices and the development of specialised applications or mobile learning systems, to the large-scale, interuniversity implementation of technologies and pedagogies to support mobile learning. Each chapter addresses challenges and solutions at one or more levels of mobile learning innovation within the education system, encompassing the student perspective, the educator perspective, technical processes, policies and organisational strategy, and leadership. The book also offers a unique perspective on the integration of mobile learning innovations within the educational, political and cultural environments of Asia-Pacific countries.

The 14th International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence 2017 (DCAI 2017) provided a forum for presenting the application of innovative techniques to study and solve complex problems. The exchange of ideas between scientists and technicians from both the academic and industrial sector is essential to advancing the development of systems that can meet the ever-growing demands of today’s society. The book brings together past experience, current work and promising future trends in distributed computing, artificial intelligence and their applications to efficiently solve real-world problems. It combines contributions in well-established and evolving areas of research, including the content of the DCAI 17 Special Sessions, which focused on multi-disciplinary and transversal aspects, such as AI-driven methods for multimodal networks and processes modeling, and secure management towards smart buildings and smart grids. The symposium was jointly organized by the Polytechnic of Porto, the Osaka Institute of Technology and the University of Salamanca. The latest event was held in Porto, Portugal, from 21st to 23rd June 2017.

Higher Education and the COVID-19 Pandemic explores how higher education institutions and systems around the world responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, managed transition to online learning, and adjusted to the new post-COVID reality.

This book focuses on the complex relationship between education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and highlights how important context is for both critiquing and achieving the Goals though education, given the critical role teachers, schools and curriculum play in young people’s lives. Readers will find examples of thinking and practice across the spectrum of education and training sectors, both formal and informal. The book adds to the increasing body of literature that recognises that education is, and must be, in its praxis, at the heart of all the SDGs. As we enter the third decade of the 21st century, we have a clear understanding of the wicked and complex crises regarding the health of life on our planet, and we cannot ignore the high levels of anxiety our young people are experiencing about their future. Continuing in the direction of unsustainable exploitation of people and nature is no longer an option if life is to have a flourishing future. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Web Engineering, ICWE 2020, which was planned to take place in Helsinki, Finland, during June 9-12, 2020. Due to the corona pandemic the conference changed to a virtual format. The total of 24 full and 10 short contributions presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 78 submissions. The book also contains 4 PhD and 7 demo papers.
