Excerpt from A Summary of the Evidence for the Genuineness, Authenticity, Uncorrupted Preservation, and Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures Volume I. (by the Author) contains a critical inquiry into the genuineness, authenticity, uncorrupted pre serva'rion and inspiration OF the holy scriptures; in cluding, among other subjects, a copious investigation of Testimonies to the leading facts recorded in the Scriptures by Profane Authors, Coins, Medals, Inscriptions, and Ancient Structures. This is followed by a full view of the arguments afforded by Miracles and Prophecy for the Inspiration of the Scriptures, and by a discussion of the Internal Evidence for their Inspiration, furnished by the Sublimity and Excellence of the Doctrines, and by the Purity of the Moral Precepts, re vealed in the Bible -the Harmony subsisting between every part -the Preservation of the Scriptures to the present time - and their Tendency to promote the present and eternal happiness of mankind, as evinced by an Historical Review of the Beneficial Effects actually produced in every age and country by a cordial reception of the Bible; together with a refutation of the very numerous objections which have been urged against the Scriptures in recent infidel publica tions. An Appendix to this volume comprises a particular examination of the Books commonly termed the Apocrypha, and of the Reasons for which they are rejected from the Canon of the divinely inspired Scriptures, by all the Reformed or Protestant Churches; and also a review of the Miracles of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, and the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, and of the Difl'iculties attendant on the Propagation of Christianity. These discussions are followed by a Table of the chief Prophecies relative to the Messiah, both in the Old and New Testaments, and by an examination of the Genuineness of J osephus's testimony concerning Jesus Christ; together with an examination and refutation of the principal contradictions to Philosophy and the Nature of Things, and to Morality, which are falsely alleged to exist in the Scriptures. In a world of rising tensions between Russia and the United States, the Middle East and Europe, Sunnis and Shiites, Islamism and liberalism, Turkey is at the epicentre. And at the heart of Turkey is its right-wing populist president, Recep Tayyip Erdo?an. Since 2002, Erdo?an has consolidated his hold on domestic politics while using military and diplomatic means to solidify Turkey as a regional power. His crackdown has been brutal and consistent - scores of journalists arrested, academics officially banned from leaving the country, university deans fired and many of the highest-ranking military officers arrested. In some senses, the nefarious and failed 2016 coup has given Erdo?an the licence to make good on his repeated promise to bring order and stability under a 'strongman'. Here, leading Turkish expert Soner Cagaptay will look at Erdo?an's roots in Turkish history, what he believes in and how he has cemented his rule, as well as what this means for the world. The book will also unpick the 'threats' Erdogan has worked to combat - from the liberal Turks to the Gulen movement, from coup plotters to Kurdish nationalists - all of which have culminated in the crisis of modern Turkey.

What we propose doing in this book, namely, to make a serious attempt to assist some of those who have inhaled the poisonous fumes of infidelity and been left in a state of mental indecision concerning sacred things. Our principal object will be to set forth some of the numerous indications that the Bible is something far superior to any human production, and give some of the rules which require to be heeded if the Scriptures are to be properly interpreted; and though their scope will go beyond the general title of ""Divine revelation,"" yet they will complement and complete the earlier ones.
