Above the Everyday / Über dem Alltag (TRANSLATION) is part of the Hortus Conclusus monumental series of spiritual teachings by German poet, writer and painter, Bô Yin Râ (Joseph Anton Schneiderfranken) (1876-1943). The Hortus Conclusus consists of 32 books as well as spiritual paintings. This edition also includes the original emphases (of font) as intended by the Author. Three collections of poems, Above the Everyday, Eternal Reality and Life in the Light - by a man who was born on Earth like all of us and is alive in the spirit. In his poems he is singing his autobiography, sometimes as man of the Earth, some-times as spiritual man. Many times he sings at the same time quintessentially our own biography as - still vaguely conscious - people of the spirit. This volume combines empirical research-based and theoretical perspectives on shame in cultural contexts and from socio-culturally different perspectives, providing new insights and a more comprehensive cultural base for contemporary research and practice in the context of shame. It examines shame from a positive psychology perspective, from the angle of defining the concept as a psychological and cultural construct, and with regard to practical perspectives on shame across cultures. The volume provides sound foundations for researchers and practitioners to develop new models, therapies and counseling practices to redefine and re-frame shame in a way that leads to strength, resilience and empowerment of the individual.

This book is concerned with the relocation of the concept of the ordinary within the works of Stéphane Mallarmé (1842-98). It engages with much of Mallarmé’s oeuvre, concentrating on the textual features which reveal that, even in his most difficult texts, the ordinary as conceptual tool, as textual matter and as contemporary environment is never dismissed, but re-invented and invested with new and lively meaning. The instability of the concept in the texts, its qualities which range from the threatening to the immensely fertile make it a particularly rewarding area of study, against the background of a critical corpus which has in the past seen Mallarmé’s work at best as unconcerned with ordinary life, at worst as irremediably removed from it. Here is presented for the first time a study of a metalanguage which appears surprisingly frequently in the Mallarmé corpus. The complex metaphorisation of the banal in Mallarmé’s oeuvre, as well as the ideological discourse of the journalistic writings in their engagement with contemporary life are analysed and contribute to the demonstration of the existence within the corpus of an idealised ordinary world re-invented by the poet.
