Advances In Web Based Learning Icwl 2006

This book contributes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Web-Based Learning, ICWL 2006, held in Penang, Malaysia in July 2006. The 31 revised full papers cover such topics as personalization in e-learning, designs, model and framework of e-learning systems, implementations and evaluations of e-learning systems, learning resource deployment, organization and management, and tools in e-learning.

This year, we received a record high of about 180 submissions to ICWL 2007. From these, a total of 55 full papers plus one keynote paper were accepted for this LNCS proceedings volume, representing an acceptance rate of about 30%. The authors of these accepted papers were of a remarkable international diversity. We would like to thank all the reviewers for spending their precious time reviewing the papers and for providing valuable comments that aided significantly in the paper selection process. Authors of the best papers presented at this conference will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible publication in 1) a special issue of IEEE Trans. on Knowledge and Data Engineering, for those papers relevant to knowledge and data engineering; and 2) a special issue of the International Journal of Distance Education Technologies (JDET), for papers of other areas. This was the first time that the ICWL conference was organized in Europe and 27 papers were from European researchers. We would like to thank our Organization Chair Dr. Taku Komura for spending an enormous amount of energy in coordinating the local arrangements. In fact, we would like to thank the entire conference organization committee for their hard work in putting together the conference. In particular, we would like to express our appreciation to our Registration Chair Dr.

This year, we received about 170 submissions to ICWL 2008. There were a total of 52 full papers, representing an acceptance rate of about 30%, plus one invited paper accepted for inclusion in this LNCS proceedings. The authors of these accepted papers came from many different countries. We would like to thank all the reviewers for spending their precious time reviewing the papers and for providing valuable c- ments that aided significantly in the paper selection process. Authors of the best papers presented in this conference will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible publication in a special issue of IEEE Internet Computing. This was the second time that the ICWL conference was organized in China. It was particularly special this year to hold ICWL 2008 in China, as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were co-located in the same country during the conference period. We would like to especially thank our Organization Co-chair, Lanfang Miao, for spending an enormous amount of effort in coordinating the local arrangements. In fact, we would like to thank the entire conference Organizing Committee for their hard work in putting together the conference. In particular, we would like to express our appreciation to our Registration Chairs, Jiying (Jean) Wang and Lanfang Miao, and Treasurer Howard Leung for their tremendous efforts in communicating with the authors regarding registration matters and maintaining the registration lists up-to-date.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Web-Based Learning, ICWL 2009, held in Aachen, Germany, in August 2009. The 38 revised full papers and 14 short papers are presented together with three invited papers and were carefully reviewed and selected from 106 submissions. They deal with topics such as technology enhanced learning, web-based learning for oriental languages, mobile learning, social software and Web 2.0 for technology enhanced learning, learning resource deployment, organization and management, design, model and framework of E-learning systems, e-learning metadata and standards, educational gaming and multimedia storytelling for learning, as well as practice and experience sharing and pedagogical Issues.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Web-Based Learning, ICWL 2010, held in Shanghai, China, in December 2010. The 36 revised full papers and 8 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 192 submissions. They deal with topics such as e-learning platforms and tools, technology enhanced learning, web-based learning for oriental languages, mobile/situated e-learning, learning resource deployment, organization and management, design, model and framework of e-learning systems, e-learning metadata and standards, collaborative learning and game-based learning, as well as practice and experience sharing and pedagogical Issues.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Web-Based Learning, ICWL 2011, held in Hong Kong, China, in December 2011. The 27 revised full papers presented together with 9 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from about 100 submissions. The papers report on research results or novel applications in web-based learning and address issues such as technology enhanced learning, personalized and adaptive learning, computer support for intelligent tutoring, intelligent tools for visual learning, Web-based learning for oriental languages learning, game-based learning, personal learning environments, computer supported collaborative learning, Web 2.0 and social learning environments, intelligent learner and group modeling, human factors and affective computing for learning, e-learning platforms and tools, design, model and framework of e-learning systems, deployment, organization and management of learning objects, e-learning metadata and standards, semantic Web and ontologies for e-learning, mobile, situated and blended learning, pedagogical issues, as well as practice and experience sharing.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Workshops held at the ICWL 2013 International Conference on Web Based Learning in Kenting, Taiwan, in October 2013. The 29 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this volume. They were held at the following workshops: First International Workshop on Ubiquitous Social Learning, USL 2013; 2013 International Workshop on Smart Living and Learning, IWSLL 2013; Third International Symposium on Knowledge Management and e-Learning, KMEL 2013; 2013 International Workshop on Cloud Computing for Web-Based Learning, IWCL 2013; 2013 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Learning; WIL 2013; and the 2013 International Workshop on e-book and Education Cloud, IWEEC 2013.

With the rapid development of Web-based learning, a new set of learning - vironments including virtual classrooms, virtual laboratories and virtual u- versities are being developed. These new learning environments, however, also introduce new problems that need to be addressed. On the technical side, there is a need for the deployment of e?ective technologies on Web-based education. On the learning side, the cyber mode of learning is very di?erent from tra- tional classroom-based learning. On the management side, the establishment of a cyber university imposes very di?erent requirements for the set up. ICWL 2005, the 4th International Conference on Web-Based Learning, was held in Hong Kong, China from July 31 to August 3, 2005, as a continued - tempttoaddressmanyoftheabove-mentionedissues.Followingthegreatsuccess of ICWL 2002 (Hong Kong, China), ICWL 2003 (Australia), and ICWL 2004 (China), ICWL 2005 aimed at presenting progresson the technical, pedagogical, as well as management issues of Web-based learning. The conference featured a comprehensive program, including a number of tutorials, two keynote talks, a main track containing regular as well as short paper presentations, and an application track. We received a total of 99 submissions from all over the world. The Program Committee selected 33 papers as regular papers for presentation in the main track, an acceptance rate of about 33%. Due to the high-quality submissions, the Committee decided to further accept 9 papers as short papers for presentation.
