Afa is an ancient system of divination that is widely used in many indigenous African traditional spiritual systems throughout West Africa, and in the global Diaspora. It is a complete system of prophetic knowledge and divine wisdom, designed to reveal ones chosen fate and destiny. The Afa system of divination is a complete system, replete with a consecrated priesthood of both male and female Bokonos. One of the central roles of Afa in ATRs (African Traditional Religions) is to spiritually align and assist the individual on the correct path of their agreed upon destiny in this life. For centuries the Ewe of Togo have employed Afa in the Vodoun religion, based on the premise that "To know ones destiny is to understand ones proper purpose here on Earth". This text offers a very brief introduction to the Anago path of Afa, utilized by the Ewe priesthoods in Togo; particularly the lineage of great Bokonos and founding ancestors of the Negue family temple, (Mama Zodédé) in Togo, and its descendant (Mama Zogbé) temple (Mami Wata Healers Society) in Martinez, Georgia, USA. Lastly, this book is designed to serve in contributing to the overall corpus of knowledge on divination within ATRs, by presenting a more accurate wholistic perspective of the ancient Ancestral system of the Vodoun religion that has been suppressed, lost and/or solemnly misunderstood in the Western world.
