'A refreshing book that can hold the reader's interest throughout. Quality of Life and Disability should be a compulsory text for all students in the disability field and would make a useful one for experienced practitioners including social workers.' - Australian Social Work 'Among the recent proliferation of books on quality of life, this is a standout! Not only is Quality of Life and Disability: An Approach for Community Practitioners placed squarely in the disability field, but it has an applied emphasis that is rare for a topic that so abounds in vague and often conflicting theories and terminologies. Rather than burdening the reader with the conceptual conundrums of a construct as ambitious as whole of life quality, Brown and Brown dive into the real life issues. This quality of life text will appeal to many practitioners in the disability field. A welcome addition to the bookshelves of many practitioners.' - Paul Bramston, University of Southern Queensland, Australia 'Excellent guide demonstrating to practitioners, not only what they have to do to increase the quality of life of the people they look after, but also how they should start doing it.' - Wspolne Tematy 'A remarkably rich mixture of experience, guidance and insight into the determination of people's quality of life, and into ways in which a wide variety of care staff, managers and policy-makers can understand and respond to disabled people's wants and needs.' - Care and Health magazine 'One of the most refreshing approaches in the contemporary literature on quality of life and disability. The authors are to be congratulated for the very user friendly way the book has been designed.' - Trevor R. Parmenter, University of Sydney 'This book reflects the authors' extensive experience and admirable insight as they bring quality of life ideas closest to those who are in the best position to apply them - the practitioners. Useful, stimulating and well written.' - Robert L. Schalock, Hastings College, Nebraska 'The authors weave their text seamlessly, reminding us at every turn that quality of life varies across individuals, cultures and time... tightly-structured and practical.' - Patricia Noonan Walsh, University College, Dublin 'This excellent book is a valuable contribution to training literature in the field of community rehabilitation.' - Mitchell Clark, Mount Royal College, Calgary, Canada Quality of life - physical, psychological and environmental well-being - is a crucial consideration for professionals working with people with a disability. The authors of this practical book apply ideas about quality of life to the field of disability to assist front-line professionals, managers and policy-makers in effective service provision. They examine the historical context of the concept of quality of life and discuss the application of quality of life in the daily lives of people who have disabilities. Using recent studies to show how the development of quality of life approaches have led to changes in rehabilitation, and how an understanding of the issue can inform practice in assessment, intervention, management and policy, this is an indispensable book for all practitioners and managers working with people with disabilities.

According to Pastor Mark Batterson in this Zondervan ebook, The Circle Maker, “Drawing prayer circles around our dreams isn’t just a mechanism whereby we accomplish great things for God. It’s a mechanism whereby God accomplishes great things in us.” Do you ever sense that there’s far more to prayer, and to God’s vision for your life, than what you’re experiencing? It’s time you learned from the legend of Honi the Circle Maker—a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people. What impossibly big dream is God calling you to draw a prayer circle around? Sharing inspiring stories from his own experiences as a circle maker, Mark Batterson will help you uncover your heart’s deepest desires and God-given dreams and unleash them through the kind of audacious prayer that God delights to answer.

I am a local man who is unable to work due to a disabling back injury caused in a truck accident in 2006, I am currently on the invalids benefit. I have a positive mental attitude and firmly believe that when one door closes another door opens. I also believe that knowledge is the key to a brighter future and the being inform will set you free. I seek the truth of my earthly existence and love in this world that is full of illusions and stubborn mind sets that do not accept change and growth. On my journey through life so far I have experienced highs and lows , from being suicidal at times to the exhilaration of being a top soldier, sportsman, father and contributing member of society. I regard family as the most important part in anyones life; it is the stage where you learn to be yourself and about unconditional love. You can choose your friends but not your family lol. I came from a large family of eight; I grew up pretty fast being the oldest male in the family as described in my first letter of my auto biography. I was guided by my ancestors and god to write so that others could learn from it. I am not a clever man I had 198 half days a whanganui boys college it was just good enough for me to pass the entry exam three times to join the army I was both a regular and then territorial soldier, when East Timor turned to violence in 2000 I reenlisted for the third time, but due to medical reasons I was not accepted for my third tour of duty. I am a spiritual being as well as flesh, the body is merely a vessel, my hope is that my book will inspire others of like mind or lost souls open there minds to one possible truth the truth that has captivated and inspired me all my life that we all are the children of a very loving god, creator or supreme being.

There is a unified field in the cosmos that holds everything together, and every discipline is a portal to it. Science calls it a field of fundamental forces and elementary particles. Religion calls it God and accepts it by faith as an impenetrable mystery. How can their unbending perspectives be reconciled? In The Ambient Christ, the author proposes a novel paradigm that explains their complementarity as a seamless unity. This innovative model provides a new story for an ailing and divided planet in the twenty-first century, and a viable solution to the holy grail quest. "There is something too narrow and missing in the gospel as it is presented to us. In spite of appearances, our age is more religious than ever; it only needs stronger meat" -Pierre Teilhard de Chardin "A religion, old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by conventional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge." -Carl Sagan”

The Ultimate Purpose Of A New Immigrant's Life is the autobiography of a Haitian teenager's way of life before emigration, when her family's equilibrium was suddenly disturbed by her father's death. As the youngest of her family of eight, she was looking at all her siblings, trying to find in one of them the father she just lost. The memories Freda captured of all siblings, relatives, and neighbors speak of the culture and the resulting imbalance she lived--role changes that were taking place within the family. Each sibling rose to their best self but eventually immigrated to the states. She took along with her the childhood tunes of long bygone days referred to in "Childhood Memories." We enjoy singing them while vacationing or at our family reunions. From early on in life, Freda chose to grab hold of the pearls of wisdom found in spirituality. This vital connection prayer has graced her with five life miracles during her life. She does not take for granted all the divergences and convergences of the actors in her life sceneries. She is thankful knowing they are part of the ultimate plan of God and for her own good. Career development and challenges were many through her immigrant's lens. Divine intercession is clear in her struggle with marital life commitment within a generational shift in family relational values from Haitian old culture to a mix of many. It has been a long journey from her native land to Boston and to Florida as a transition of twenty-six years, rich in community activities, spirituality search, connection, and growth. Cultural longing fostered the creation of the citronelle tea, a reminiscence of homeland childhood enjoyment. To God be the glory. The return home is very tumultuous as years creep on and the neocolonial boycotting agenda for Haiti continues to chase patriots away from their dreamland since 1803. The first Black republic is being drowned by its former slave-keeping nations still in 2022. The collective journey continues.
