Spanning nearly 50 years of family history, the book chronicles the remarkable lives of two creative talents, Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez. It's a story of father and son set against the backdrop of Hollywood; this narrative is organized around their physical and spiritual journey along the Camino de Santiago, Spain, the thousand-year-old pilgrimage path which traverses Galicia. It is the area from which Sheen's father emigrated to the U.S. and to which Estevez's own son has returned. Along the Waywill focus not just on the lives these men have chosen as artists, but also (and most importantly) on the one they have lived together. It is a story of family bonds and artistic advances and setbacks; of good choices and hard choices; of opportunities lost and opportunities found. Along the Way continues and expands on themes in Greene’s previous books, Terry’s Run (2019) and Ramblin’ (2021). Early chapters describe episodes where high winds and waves posed problems in handling sail and power boats. Other parts of the book present portraits of memorable people the author encountered. One section consists of excerpts from a remarkable trove of letters written by Army friends during and soon after WW II. These letters, nearly eighty years old and preserved by accident in an unintentional time capsule, tell in words as fresh as the days they were written what these young men observed and thought about in their small parts of an enormous war. Reflections on the serious topic of confronting potentially fatal dangers are in another part of the book along with accounts and discussion of lighter topics. Three short stories exhumed from the time capsule and rewritten make up the last part of the book.

With God's direction, I have embarked upon a journey with a purpose, and that is to share the word of God in a way so that everyone can understand regardless of his or her status. I ask that as you go through its pages with me and that you will do so with an open mind, praying and looking up the scriptures given that I have not already provided. As fellow motorists, we are all aware that, to go on a road trip, it requires planning, and preparation, considering such things as packing, funds, vehicle readiness if driving, and the route. There are several modes of travel, but driving, to me, is the most rewarding because of sceneries, interaction with others, and to be able to stop at a restaurant, and enjoy good food and conversation. Some of the things that affect our travels are the road signs motorists come upon. Even though we have those physical signs to guide us, those signs can also be applied spiritually. I hope to show that it has always been God's plan to guide and direct man's steps. Any highway, road, or freeway that does not have signs to aid in traveling will not be a safe avenue in which to travel. Cities and states have mapped out their roads, and streets have various signage to make our motoring travels safer and less stressful. Now, come along with me on a wonderful journey into this book that will prepare us for the Christian journey, and may the Holy Spirit fill every void of misunderstanding God's holy word with clarity and revelation.
