The financial stringency end the continued low price of agricultural and mining products, has had a tendency in some localities to curtail the amounts appropriated for educational purposes; but the loyal manner and commendable spirit with which almost all of our oom mnnities have maintained the schools, is a just cause for increased pride in our State. The, lack of remunerative employment and the rigid enforcement of our new and very efieotive compulsory school law. Has caused a fine increase in the number of pupils enrolled. The teachers have given much more study to the science of teaching. Better methods are constantly coming into use. A spirit of im rovement end an suthu siastic love for the work is more apparent. Idea s are placed higher, both by teachers and patrons. More careful sosdemio preparation is made by candidates for teaching, and the means for self-onltnre and improvement are used for more than formerly.
