Dance is the art least susceptible to preservation since its embodied, kinaesthetic nature has proven difficult to capture in notation and even in still or moving images. However, frameworks have been established and guidance made available for keeping dances, performances, and choreographers’ legacies alive so that the dancers of today and tomorrow can experience and learn from the dances and dancers of the past. In this volume, a range of voices address the issue of dance preservation through memory, artistic choice, interpretation, imagery and notation, as well as looking at relevant archives, legal structures, documentation and artefacts. The intertwining of dance preservation and creativity is a core theme discussed throughout this text, pointing to the essential continuity of dance history and dance innovation. The demands of preservation stretch across time, geographies, institutions and interpersonal connections, and this book focuses on the fascinating web that supports the fragile yet urgent effort to sustain our dancing heritage. Irepo was born in Hope. He finished high school in Fidee, and also taught in an elementary school there. He later worked in Paradise City where he worked at the Ministry of Works and Survey for four years, before he left for France in 1967. In 1968 he moved to the USA where he enrolled in the RCA (Radio Corporation of America) School, a technical trade school in New York City. He then gained admission to Pace University in 1970, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1973. Irepo has a dual Masters Degree from Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus), the first, a Masters in Business Administration (1974 and later in 1985 he received his Masters Degree in Economics from Fordham University (Bronx Campus) New York City. He went on to work for the Health and Hospital Corporation at the head office as an Assistant Systems Analyst New York City, before he was transferred to the Harlem Hospital Center as a Systems Analyst and later became a Coordinating Manager. Due to a budget crisis, he left to work for the Taxi and Limousine Commission of the City of New York as an Administrative Staff Analyst where he retired in October of 2009.

This book questions the de facto dominance of narrative when watching films. Using the film musical as a case study, this book explores whether an alternative spatial understanding of film can offer alternative readings to narrative. For instance, how do film aesthetics influence our interaction with the film? Can camera movement and music make us ‘feel’ cinema? Can the film world bleed into our own? Utilising film musicals ranging from those by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark (2000), Feeling Film: A Spatial Approach investigates how we might go about understanding the audience's spatial relationship with film aesthetics, what it might look like, and the tools needed to conduct analysis.
