APOCalypse 2500 RPG Game masters can utilize the theories and unique twists on what zombification is in this book to tailor the various flesh-eating monsters to suit any game scenario or plot element. I have gone into some depth as to the behavior of both zombies and the plague as well as how it mutates and what it really is. This book has become far more than a single monster reference as it creates a complete resource and new reality within the world of APOCalypse 2500. Included in this volume is a complete zombie adventure scenario set in an abandon walled city, lost to the plague centuries ago.

When writing about zombies for the APOCalypse 2500 core books it became clear to me that I had way too much to say about zombies and the different types that could exist in a magical high tech world. Therefore I decided to create an entire reference volume to help game masters to use and understand the many variations of the zombie theme. Such ideas led to the creation of a new vocation, weapons, and many weird mutations of the original zombie idea. In addition to the slow moronic Romero-esque zombies are many variations on the zombie theme where mutation, cybernetics, and magic have created limitless possibilities. Game masters can utilize the theories and unique twists on what zombification is in this book to tailor the various flesh-eating monsters to suit any game scenario or plot element. This book is far more than a single monster reference as it creates a complete resource and new reality within the world of APOCalypse 2500.

Finding plague victims inside their compound, survivors of the zombie apocalypse suspect that the zombie plague has mutated and is being spread by spores emitted by infected flesh-eating ghouls. People infected by the spores could be asymptomatic carriers. Not only do the survivors have to worry about being bitten by rampaging flesh-eating ghouls but also being infected by inhaling spores emitted by a carrier within their camp. Terrified and suspicious of each other, the victims live in mutual fear as they try to determine who the carriers are. A band of marauders takes over the compound and incites the members to turn against each other, exploiting their fear of carriers, as hordes of ghouls mount a devastating assault on the perimeter. Meanwhile, at the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center President Cole declares a national emergency under section 201 of the National Emergencies Act and proclaims himself president for life as he hunkers down in the bunker with what little remains of the US government.

From the best-selling, award-winning author of 1491 and 1493--an incisive portrait of the two little-known twentieth-century scientists, Norman Borlaug and William Vogt, whose diametrically opposed views shaped our ideas about the environment, laying the groundwork for how people in the twenty-first century will choose to live in tomorrow's world. In forty years, Earth's population will reach ten billion. Can our world support that? What kind of world will it be? Those answering these questions generally fall into two deeply divided groups--Wizards and Prophets, as Charles Mann calls them in this balanced, authoritative, nonpolemical new book. The Prophets, he explains, follow William Vogt, a founding environmentalist who believed that in using more than our planet has to give, our prosperity will lead us to ruin. Cut back! was his mantra. Otherwise everyone will lose! The Wizards are the heirs of Norman Borlaug, whose research, in effect, wrangled the world in service to our species to produce modern high-yield crops that then saved millions from starvation. Innovate! was Borlaug's cry. Only in that way can everyone win! Mann delves into these diverging viewpoints to assess the four great challenges humanity faces--food, water, energy, climate change--grounding each in historical context and weighing the options for the future. With our civilization on the line, the author's insightful analysis is an essential addition to the urgent conversation about how our children will fare on an increasingly crowded Earth.

You’re outnumbered, in fear for your life, surrounded by flesheating zombies. What can save you now? Mathematics, of course. Mathematical Modelling of Zombies engages the imagination to illustrate the power of mathematical modelling. Using zombies as a “hook,” you’ll learn how mathematics can predict the unpredictable. In order to be prepared for the apocalypse, you’ll need mathematical models, differential equations, statistical estimations, discretetime models, and adaptive strategies for zombie attacks—as well as baseball bats and Dire Straits records (latter two items not included). In Mathematical Modelling of Zombies, Robert Smith? brings together a highly skilled team of contributors to fend off a zombie uprising. You’ll also learn how modelling can advise government policy, how theoretical results can be communicated to a nonmathematical audience and how models can be formulated with only limited information. A forward by Andrew Cartmel—former script editor of Doctor Who, author, zombie fan and all-round famous person in science-fiction circles—even provides a genealogy of the undead. By understanding how to combat zombies, readers will be introduced to a wide variety of modelling techniques that are applicable to other real-world issues (biology, epidemiology, medicine, public health, etc.). So if the zombies turn up, reach for this book. The future of the human race may depend on it.
