This document presents the Guidelines for aquaculture management in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) – March 2020 that were approved by SADC member States in June 2019. Ce document présente les Directives pour la gestion de l'aquaculture dans la Communauté de développement de l'Afrique australe (SADC) – mars 2020, qui ont été approuvées par les États membres de la SADC en juin 2019. Este documento apresenta as Diretrizes para a gestão da aquicultura na Comunidade de Desenvolvimento da África Austral (SADC) – março de 2020, que foram aprovadas pelos estados membros da SADC em junho de 2019.

The Committee discussed the main problems faced by the Mediterranean aquaculture market and agreed on the need to harmonize and to implement the procedures for site selection and site management of Mediterranean aquaculture, for Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Monitoring Programmes. The Committee confirmed that the sustainability of aquaculture depends on four key dimensions being the economic, social, environmental and governance dimension. Le Comite a aborde les problemes qui se posent l'aquaculture en Mediterranee et a convenu qu'il etait necessaire d'harmoniser et de mettre en oeuvre des procedures de la selection et la gestion des sites concernant l'aquaculture mediterraneenne, d'evaluation de l'impact et du suivi de l'environnement."

This document presents the adopted report of the tenth session of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI), held in Trondheim, Norway from 23 to 27 August 2019. The Sub-Committee provides a forum for consultation and discussion on aquaculture-relevant topics, advises COFI on related technical and policy matters, and provides guidance for the future work. Le présent document est le rapport de la dixième session du Sous-Comité de l’aquaculture du Comité des pêches de la FAO, qui s’est tenue à Trondheim (Norvège) du 23 au 27 août 2019. Le Sous-Comité offre un espace de consultation et de débat sur l’aquaculture et conseille le Comité des pêches sur les questions techniques et politiques liées à ce secteur, ainsi que sur les activités futures dans ce domaine. En este documento se presenta el informe aprobado por el Subcomité de Acuicultura del Comité de Pesca (COFI) de la FAO en su 10.ª reunión, celebrada en Trondheim (Noruega) del 23 al 27 de agosto de 2019. El Subcomité ofrece un foro para mantener consultas y debates sobre temas pertinentes para la acuicultura, asesora al COFI sobre asuntos técnicos y de políticas relacionados con la acuicultura y proporciona orientación sobre los trabajos futuros.

Successfully managing fish health issues associated with fish farming is an important aspect for the sustainability of aquaculture. Diseases such as infectious salmon (Salmo salar) anaemia (ISA) are major issues facing the salmon aquaculture industry in many locations around the world. One mechanism that may facilitate the spread of the ISA virus between farms is the water-borne transport of viral particles. In an effort to help estimate the potential for water exchange of the ISA virus in the southwestern New Brunswick area of the Bay of Fundy, a three-dimensional tidal water ciculation and particle transport model was developed for the southern area of Grand Manan Island. Water exchange scenarios based on the movement of particles from a fish farm during one tidal excursion, as predicted by the model, are compared to those estimated by a simple method assuming a 5-km radius circular zone of water exchange around each farm. The results can be used to estimate scenarios of viral transport and dispersal for use in fish health management, farm site selection and the designation of Bay Management Areas
