John Colvin's career as one of Her Majesty's Representatives in Foreign Parts never scaled the greatest heights of the ambassadorial ladder, but it did lead to two unusual postings, which he describes in this book. In 1966 he was sent to Hanoi at a time when the Vietnam War began to assume its full rigour, and his verdict on the American involvement, contrary to the widely-held view, is that they did not leave Indo-China without credit or achievement. His next posting was as Ambassador to the People's Republic of Mongolia. His memories of that remote but lovely country, which dwell as much upon topographical as political aspects, provide an insight into life in what was then a Russian satellite state, far removed from the centre of world affairs.

In 1975, Tempestt Saville and her family are chosen by lottery to "move on up" to Lakeland: one square mile of sparkling apartment towers and emerald lawns where the Black elite live sheltered from the ghetto by a ten-foot-tall, ivy-covered wrought-iron fence. Eleven-year-old Temmy doesn't enjoy the privilege, however, and thinks Lakeland is the "kingdom of the drab." Instead, she is drawn to the vivid world outside the fence: to 35th Street, where the saved and the sinners are both so "done up" you can't tell one from the other. Tempestt's curiosity soon leads her down a dangerous path, however, and after witnessing the death of a friend, she sets into motion a chain of events that will send 35th Street up in flames.

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Business Administration degree, and a juris doctorate degree. I was an extremely successful civil trial attorney for thirteen years and won several of the largest civil cases in the United States. I was in a horrendous motorcycle accident on June 30, 1995. I suffered severe traumatic brain injury, serious bloody abrasions and damage to the entire left side of my face, many broken bones, and injured internal organs. I was in a coma. I died a second time on September 20, 2019. My eyes were glazed in an upward direction. I vomited uncontrollably and suffered a grand mal seizure. In the twenty-five-year period between my two deaths, I considered and analyzed incessantly what was the CreatoraEUR(tm)s plan for humanity, the impact that the exercise of free will have on a human after life on earth, how people should treat others in a myriad of circumstances, and many other topics. It is my belief that I may have more intense feelings on these subjects after my two deaths and intense evaluations. My opinions are provided in this book.
