Mythopoeia has always been a steady proponent in the construct of any socio-cultural order. In contemporary times, owing to the rise of cultural studies, a steady interest in revisionist literary texts has also surfaced. The association of Indian culture and values with a plethora of mythological narratives have made several scholars curious because they do offer an array of new perspectives of understanding the art, aesthetics and also the politics of myths within a larger social, religious and cultural context. Similarly, by exploring the trope of myth, it has been possible to look at other countries' cultures as well. This anthology offers new readings of classical myths across continents and cultures. The anthologized essays have collectively explored the various trends of revisionist literature. Sincere attempts have also been made to highlight the ways in which re-readings of select literary works can admirably transform set notions and ideas of human existence.

Human culture has always weaved myths around its pattern of existence for multiple purposes. The interplay of religion and social practices have found their own space within the sphere of mythology. It is possible to read mythical texts to probe into the greater picture of human civilization. The contribution of myths towards the shaping of human beliefs, behavioural patterns are evident and assessing them often reveals a plethora of cultural histories unexplored and therefore unacknowledged before. The contribution of mythopoeia towards the construct of human socio-cultural identity has been largely accepted. Modern academia has thus taken a strong interest in revisionist literature to understand the hitherto unknown nuances of human civilization. In the edited anthology, Art and Aesthetics of Modern Mythopoeia: Literatures, Myths and Revisionism (Vol-II), like the first volume, an attempt has been made to anthologize the works of a large number of authors who have talked about pertinent issues in the context of myth-making, the latent politics of mythopoeia and has taken into account several under-explored texts that are rich in mythical content. This volume offers a wide range of critical studies involving classical as well as modern myths around the globe.

The book Diaspora Literature: Identity Beyond Borders is a compendium of erudite academic articles depicting the generations of diasporic contemplation and consequences figured out in the literature of this specific theme and motif. What is the role of art in modern society? To what extent are the beautiful and the morally good intertwined? Hegel's Political Aesthetics explores Hegel's take on these ever-relevant philosophical questions and investigates three key themes: art's contribution to modern ethical life, the loss of art's authority in modern ethical life and ways of thinking beyond Hegel's analysis of art's role in society. The aesthetic is explored through the lens of German Idealism from Kant to Hegel, ultimately placing ethics and morality at the forefront of this debate. The authors explore Hegel's take on Kant's conception by historicizing what it means to be responsible to others, which for Hegel means being free within the norms of society, within what he calls ethical life. As a set of concrete social arrangements designed for finite human beings, however, ethical life falls short of actualizing freedom absolutely. The themes in this volume are motivated by a central ambivalence in Hegel's thinking about modernity. The question of freedom sits at the forefront of this text, alongside the relation between art and the spirit. This book will be of particular interest to philosophers of aesthetics, politics and ethics.

Myths are a central part of our reality. But merely debunking them lets us forget why they are created in the first place and why we need them. André Fischer draws on key examples from German postwar culture, from novelists Hans Henny Jahnn and Hubert Fichte, to sculptor and performance artist Joseph Beuys, and filmmaker Werner Herzog, to show that mythmaking is an indispensable human practice in times of crisis. Against the background of mythologies based in nineteenth-century romanticism and their ideological continuation in Nazism, fresh forms of mythmaking in the narrative, visual, and performative arts emerged as an aesthetic paradigm in postwar modernism. Boldly rewriting the cultural history of an era and setting in transition, The Aesthetics of Mythmaking in German Postwar Culture counters the predominant narrative of an exclusively rational Vergangenheitsbewältigung (“coming to terms with the past”). Far from being merely reactionary, the turn toward myth offered a dimension of existential orientation that had been neglected by other influential aesthetic paradigms of the postwar period. Fischer’s wide-ranging, transmedia account offers an inclusive perspective on myth beyond storytelling and instead develops mythopoesis as a formal strategy of modernism at large.

Recent years have seen a rennaissance of scholarly interest in the fin-de-siécle fiction of the New Woman. New Woman Strategies offers a new approach to the subject by focusing on the discursive strategies and revisionist aesthetics of the genre in the writings of three of its key exponents: Sarah Grand (1854-1943), Olive Schreiner (1855-1920) and Mona Caird (1854-1932). The study explores how each writer drew on, mimicked, feminized and ultimately transformed traditional literary and cultural tropes and paradigms: feminity, allegory and mythology.
