Astronomy has become data-driven in ways that are both quantitatively and qualitatively different from the past: data structures are not simple; procedures to gain astrophysical insights are not obvious; and the informational content of the data sets is so high that archival research and data mining are not merely convenient, but obligatory, as researchers who obtain the data can only extract a small fraction of the science enabled by it. IAU Symposium 325 took place at a crucial stage in the development of the field, when many efforts have carried significant achievements, but the widespread groups have just begun to effectively communicate across specialties, to gather and assimilate their achievements, and to consult cross-disciplinary experts. Bringing together astronomers involved in surveys and large simulation projects, computer scientists, data scientists, and companies, this volume showcases their fruitful exchange of ideas, methods, software, and technical capabilities.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Data Analytics and Management in Data Intensive Domains, DAMDID/RCDL 2017, held in Moscow, Russia, in October 2017. The 16 revised full papers presented together with three invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 75 submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: data analytics; next generation genomic sequencing: challenges and solutions; novel approaches to analyzing and classifying of various astronomical entities and events; ontology population in data intensive domains; heterogeneous data integration issues; data curation and data provenance support; and temporal summaries generation.

This timely book presents an overview of the galaxies within the Local Volume, including the Local Group and our closest neighbours, the Andromeda Galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds. Presented here are the latest results from radio, infrared and optical surveys as well as detailed multi-wavelength studies of individual galaxies. The book aims to provide a vibrant forum for presentations and discussions across a broad range of astrophysical topics.

This volume contains the proceedings of the meeting entitled, "The IGM/Galaxy Connection: The Distribution of Baryons at z = 0. " The meeting was held August 8 -10 at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) located in Boulder, Colorado on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains (see conference photo). We organized this meeting because we felt it was time to address the link between galaxies and the intergalactic medium at low redshift. In this vein, we posed several questions to the conference participants: Where are the baryons in the local universe and in what phase do they reside? What signatures of galaxy evolution have been imprinted on the IGM? What percentage of intergalactic gas is left from the galaxy formation process? What does the distribution of baryons at z = 0 tell us about the early universe? The conference was an overwhelming success with lots of friendly interaction and discussion among the participants. At lunch we were treated to splendid views from the NCAR terrace and discussions rang ing from the importance of the LSR, GSR, and LGSR velocity frames to how long the desserts would last with 90 astronomers and the hot Boul der sun. From an inventory of the baryons, to the associations between galaxies and Lya absorbers, to the mechanisms by which galaxies obtain and lose gas, the conference covered many topics. The results of these endeavors are contained in these pages and eloquently summarized by Chris Impey.

This book contains an up-to-date review of the structure and evolution of disk galaxies from both the observational and theoretical point of view. It is the proceedings of the "Island Universes" conference held at the island of Terschelling in July 2005. It brings together a broad range of aspects of disk galaxies: structure and dynamics, the latest multi-wavelength surveys, low- and high redshift observations, theory and observations.

"This volume of the ASP Conference Series contains papers that were presented at the 19th Annual Conference on Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems (ADASS XIX or ADASS2009), which was held in Sapporo, Japan, at the Renaissance Sapporo Hotel during 4-8 October 2009. The conference was hosted by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and was the first ADASS conference held in Asia. The Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems conference has been held every year since 1991. The conference provides a forum for scientists and programmers interested in algorithms, software, and software systems for astronomy. The program consists of invited talks, contributed oral and poster papers, and special interest group meetings (called BOFs). The main themes for the conference included Large Systems, Archive Architectures, Time Domain Astronomy, Visual Applications, and the Virtual Observatory. These topics were discussed in 44 oral presentations, 89 posters, six floor demonstrations, two focus demonstrations, as well as the two BOFs. This volume includes an overview of the challenges related to multi-wavelength data in actual astronomical projects. It will be of interest not only to scientists and software developers in astronomy, but also to those in other fields of science that have complex systems and huge amounts of data."--Publisher's website.
