This paper reports the results of a detailed mapping program over an area of the Hope Bay volcanic belt, western Nunavut, carried out in conjunction with a detailed core-logging & alteration study of the Naartok gold deposit. The paper includes information on the regional geology, the geology of the belt, the history of mineral exploration in the area, and the lithology & stratigraphy of the area's volcanic & intrusive rocks. The final sections review structural geology, the observed structural & stratigraphic relations, the alteration of volcanic rocks, and the characteristics of gold mineralization in the Madrid area (location of the Naartok deposit) & Wolverine Lake area of the belt.
