Biblical Abcs

Biblical ABCs is a theological resistance primer. Its author, Kornelis Heiko Miskotte, was a Dutch pastor, theologian, and antifascist who lived and worked under the Nazi occupation of his country. Miskotte’s family hid Jews inside their home, and Miskotte facilitated underground Christian discussion groups. In 1941, he published an illegal pamphlet as a study guide for these groups. In an atmosphere saturated with propaganda and lies, Miskotte felt that Christians needed a refresher course in the basics of biblical language—an anti-Nazi catechism, as it were. Miskotte presents this instruction in twelve brief, poetic meditations on important terms drawn from the Bible. Like his teacher Karl Barth, Miskotte insists on the primacy of the Word, and like his imprisoned colleague Dietrich Bonhoeffer, he emphasizes the this-worldliness of the Old Testament. Miskotte also shows his deep debt to the Jewish theologian, Franz Rosenzweig. He begins his primer with the A of the biblical ABCs: the Name of God, the Tetragrammaton, which Miskotte sees as the cornerstone of all resistance to authoritarianism and truth decay.

The reason for doing God's ABCs of the Bible is because John believes that people today don't read the Bible like they should and know God's Word. Adults and children are playing video games that are reprogramming their minds. He thought it would be nice to have an alphabet book to get the kids and adults to read it and get them to go searching for the verses in the Bible and to get them interested in reading the Bible more. This will make them wonder and search for more truths from God in His Word. This alphabet book will give the readers an insight to Jesus Christ, prayer, and some of God's promises that you can find only in God's Holy Word.

Learning the ABCs: Apologetics, the Bible, and Creation is a source of information that has taken the author nearly forty-four years to accumulate. The word apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia, which means "one capable of a strong defense." This book offers that ability to every reader, to become a strong defender. That strong defense is against those who would have us disbelieve in the Bible stories, events, prophecies, and overall accuracy of the Bible. Archaeology has progressed tremendously in the last seventy years, especially in the field of biblical archaeology. It's estimated that there are now over 6,500 discoveries in this field, verifying, illuminating, or bearing evidence for many of the people, places, stories, and events mentioned in the Bible. Yet when I ask most Christians to name three, they cannot. The same thing is now being found in science. There are vast amounts of discoveries, most coming from secular science, proving the fallibility and inaccuracies of evolution and the big bang.
