In the aftermath of the Cold War, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer offers his most challenging book to date: a probing assessment of the meaning and implications of what U.S. leaders have called a "new world order." While the end of the Cold War and the mobilization of sanctions against Iraq opened the possibility of a truly new world order, Nelson-Pallmeyer argues that the Gulf War was used to serve a very different purpose. United States elites in the national security establishment instead sought to make the world safe for future wars, to derail the post-Cold War "peace dividend," and to foreclose the possibility of a world order based on international justice and commitment to human rights. From the perspective of the Third World, where ever-greater debt leads to ever-greater death, Nelson-Pallmeyer shows how the "new world order" is only a new way of managing the old world order: the misery of the poor will continue to sustain the appetites of the rich. Parallel to the increased pauperization of the Third World, the 1980s saw the massive transfer of wealth within the United States, from the poor to the very wealthy. The consequences: the decay of our cities and dramatic increases in racial violence, drug abuse, and crime. At the same time, the impending ecological crisis has escalated rapidly. Finally, Nelson-Pallmeyer turns his attention to the role of Christians in blessing the "new world order." Appalled by the abuse of religious rhetoric in justification of the Gulf War he examines how Jesus confronted the "world order" of his day, and calls for a radical discipleship that worships the God of life rather than the idols of power and wealth.

Contributors to the book suggest an alternative discourse and value system to that of the market-led corporate global agenda, one that does not directly challenge corporate globalization but recognizes a parallel reality. Need and ingenuity are creating a culture that is clearly different from both North American pop culture and the high culture of the intellectual elites, and which can lead the world away from an "economics of death" to a more positive world. The New World Order does not, however, encourage naive optimism, as it recognizes that the lethal inversion of our value system, which is only beginning to be recognized, may not be acknowledged and counteracted in time to prevent disaster. Contributors include Meenakshi Bharat (University of New Delhi), James Bisset (former Canadian ambassador to Yugoslavia), Leigh S. Brownhill (OISE, University of Toronto), Keith Ellis (University of Toronto), María Figueredo (University of Toronto), Michael Mandel (Osgoode Hall Law School), John McMurtry (University of Guelph), J. Nef (University of Guelph), Jennifer Sumner (University of Guelph), Terisa E. Turner (University of Guelph), Edward Vargo (the Assumption University in Bangkok), and Gordana Yovanovich.

Widely regarded as one of the great classic examples of dystopian fiction (along with Orwell’s 1984), Brave New World is a chilling tale of a world where humanity has given up love, art, freedom, and even choice, all in the name of stability and happiness. This stability is rocked when the long-lost son of one of their highest caste is found living on a savage reservation. Devoid of the careful subliminal education that all people normally receive, the savage stands as a contradiction to everything that society values. His presence in their midst forces others to question these same values, and threatens to change their lives forever. What if the United States of America had a secret destiny that was known by only an enlightened few? Did any of the founding fathers belong to any secret societies? Why are there pagan gods and ancient symbols all over Washington, D.C.? Could any of this affect your life today? Over the last century, the United States of America has transformed itself from a sovereign nation into a global empire without borders. In Ameroca's New World Order: A Global Atlantis for the Age of Aquarius, author Chris Tyson uncovers the true purpose of America known over a century before 1776. By understanding our nation's hidden past, the future of America's relationship to the rest of the world becomes clear. The founding fathers chose this country's destiny over 250 years ago. Now, you must choose your eternal destiny, with or without God. Once you read this book, you will never see America in the same light. Chris Tyson received his bachelor's in criminology from the University of Florida. He has received training from the following agencies: the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center, and the Office of State and Local Government Coordination Preparedness.
