Bright Light tells the story of God visibly at work in and through the life of pastor and revivalist Harold Burchett, now (March 2016) ninety-one years old. What Harold has seen and reports here are not flashy “signs and wonders” in the traditional sense but other ways that God has unmistakably shown up in Harold’s experience and ministry. He tells his story in three parts. 1. “God’s work in me—first”: from a loving, God-centered childhood into the rough-and-tumble world of a reporter for his local newspaper—and then, while still a teenager, to war in the South Pacific on a U.S. Navy destroyer. Prayers answered in the war zone, along with practices learned for reaching the hearts of his faith-mocking fellow sailors, set a fire in Harold’s heart that shapes his entire career. 2. “God’s work in my public ministry”: scenes from Harold’s life as an itinerant evangelist and settled pastor. Through prayer and with total confidence in God’s power to change lives on the basis of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross, Harold ministers in public settings from New Brunswick to Virginia. He details some of the notable results. 3. “God’s work in my personal encounters”: stories of individuals who experience the Lord’s personal rescue from a wide variety of crippling issues through Harold’s prayers and words. Those early shipboard lessons on how to be a “fisher of men” (Mark 1:17) clearly have paid off! The book concludes with pointed summaries of lessons learned and of life-advice, especially for readers hungry to experience the same Bright Light that Harold has seen.

Apathy is killing the Church. Many who claim to know Jesus live unchanged lives and divide their affections among worthless idols. Passion Cry reveals a holy God who is unashamedly jealous for the love of His people, and He will not let this dispassion toward Him remain. The Church has suffered too long from the pressure to conform to a dull, disinterested, lukewarm, and detached approach to Christ. The tide must turn. In the face of societal pressure, cultural and moral revolution, and an anti-Christ flavor that increases every day, Pastor Robbie Symons calls the people of God to rise up and take their stand. As the persecution upon Christ-followers goes from subtle to unmistakable, the current generation of believers is about to find out where their passions truly lie.

From the authors of Making Meaning in Older Age and Older Adults: Understanding and Facilitating Transitions (now in its third edition) Many demands in life can impede meaning-making. The pressures of work, ongoing education, raising a family, caregiving for older relatives—and more—compete for our time to pursue meaning in life. The work of character development, the effort and discipline(s) needed for purposeful living, and learning healthy ways of dealing with adversity can get short-circuited, leaving people with a sense of internal emptiness or quiet desperation. The desire to live a perfect life, one untroubled by “messiness,” whether in our homes or in our life choices, can leave us with the nagging question: “What’s it all for?” This book offers short and easy-to-read meditations that address making meaning through the metaphor of dirt. With their decades of working with people facing challenging circumstances, identical twins Marlette and Annette explain why making meaning is important, and they outline practical ways in which adults can find meaning in their lives. Transparent and real, the authors address the challenging circumstances we may think disturb our lives unfairly (but may, in fact, lead to greater richness), as well as discuss the impact in the world of living purposefully. The authors write with insight and warmth as well as personal experience of adversity; they provide persuasive reasoning for the importance of living intentionally and meaningfully in the messiness of life. The meaning really is in the dirt!

This book will give you valuable information, tools, and detailed instructions on how to incorporate this Loving information into your daily life. Part 1 "Unfolding the Fundamentals of Life" describes the experiences and spiritual breakthroughs that happened to me and other individuals during our search for truth. Part II "Higher Consciousness" takes the reader on a path to higher levels of mental awareness and understanding. New feelings of Love and compassion will start radiating from you naturally. The word Love is capitalized throughout this book to emphasize its importance as the Essence of the Universe. Be prepared for a wonderful experience when you complete this spiritual journey. A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
