The undead legions of Iuzerak have gathered under the banner of the villainous Black Friar, who seeks the Obelisk of Life to resurrect the dead god and unleash hell on the world of Tellus. Only the unlikely alliance of a novice wizard, a volatile mercenary, a renegade elven princess, a dishonored assassin, a doomed minotaur, a thieving gnome, and a defective mech, stand any hope of stopping the army of darkness known as the Hellmongers.

The Dust Men are no more. After defeating the Hellmongers, the Heroes of the Heap find themselves scattered to the farthest corners of Tellus. Crullak endures numerous trials for his nobility, Omar chases a legendary city, Skullgrin and Box try to change the future of the Gloam, Alaurel walks with the druids while hiding a secret, and Mik attempts to catch lightning in a bottle again. However, fate intervenes and brings ghosts from the past, unsettled debts, and new enemies with old faces to the fore, all seeking to kill the famed adventurers once and for all.

Facsimile edition of the 1972 reissue of Flinders Petrie’s 1914 pioneering typological catalogue of Egyptian amulets, one of a number of such catalogs to be reissued in this new series. Remarkably, though it can be criticized in points of detail emanating from more recent research, it remains unsurpassed in its comprehensive description, typological classification, and interpretation. While an absence of reasoned argument for the dating of his various groups is a weak point of Petrie’s study from the point of view of modern scholarship, his attention to detail and careful consideration of typology and potential meaning, borne of decades of observation, means that this, and the other catalogs in the series, remain as invaluable reference books for Egyptologists. Based on examination of his own extensive collection of Egyptian artifacts, Petrie presents a typologically ordered catalog divided into seven main groups defined on the basis of interpretation rather than subject: amulets of ‘similar,’ i.e., relating to body parts; power; property; protection; human-headed; animal-headed; and animal gods. Each class of object is described along with its varieties: material, distribution, position within burials, its chronological position as defined by Petrie himself, and its meaning interpreted. Collections containing examples are listed and hundreds of objects are presented in photographs and a selection of burial associations illustrated by coffin plans.

The first-of-its-kind exhibit cataloged here focuses on the women of Egypt from all levels of society in works compiled strictly from American collections by American curators. Because the quantity of written records is limited (though enormous in comparison to most early societies), there is still much guesswork involved in determining the place women held in Egyptian society. It is clear that, unlike most ancient and not-so-ancient societies, Egypt conferred on women the legal right to own property and to barter their own goods, which means a larger record for current study. This early work by the British archaeologist, Flinders Petrie, was originally published in 1914 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Amulets' is a scholarly work on the varieties of amulets found on archaeological digs. William Matthew Flinders Petrie was born on 3rd July 1853 in Kent, England, son of Wlilliam Petrie and Ann née Flinders. He showed an early interest in the field of archaeology and by his teenage years was surveying local Roman monuments near his family home. Flinders Petrie continued to have many successes in Egypt and Palestine throughout his career, most notably, his discovery of the Mernepte stele, a stone tablet depicting scenes from ancient times. His excellent methodology and plethora of finds earned him a Knighthood for his services to archaeology in 1923.
