We are living in a change of era, not an era of change. The current crisis poses challenges but is also an opportunity for Europe and Latin America. And it seems clear the way out of the crisis and the answers to old challenges and new social risks have to come from the politics. It is, therefore, fundamental to strengthen political dialogue between the EU and Latin America. This does not only mean providing more forums for political discussion but rather dealing with such dialogue on a more equitable basis, through a bi-directional approach centring not only on the problems of Latin America but also on those of the EU. In this respect we would hope for a renewed interest in the situation of the EU on the part of Latin America.

There is an alleged crisis of cohesion in the UK, manifested in debates about identity and 'Britishness', the breakdown of social connections along the fault lines of geography, ethnicity, faith, income and age, and the fragile relationship between citizen and state. This book examines how these new dimensions of diversity and difference, so often debated in the national context, are emerging at the neighbourhood level. Contributors from a range of disciplinary backgrounds critically assess, and go beyond the limits of, contemporary policy discourses on 'community cohesion' to explore the dynamics of diversity and cohesion within neighbourhoods and to identify new dimensions of disconnection between and within neighbourhoods. The chapters provide theoretically informed critiques of the policy responses of public, private, voluntary and community organisations and present a wealth of new empirical research evidence about the dynamics of cohesion in UK neighbourhoods. Topics covered include new immigration, religion and social capital, faith schools, labour and housing market disconnections, neighbourhood territoriality, information technology and neighbourhood construction, and gated communities. Community cohesion in crisis? will be of interest to academics, policy makers, practitioners and students in the fields of human and urban geography, urban studies, sociology, politics, governance, social policy, criminology and housing studies.

In times of rising polarization and disinformation at the global level, this reprint, "Geopolitics, Public Communication, and Social Cohesion Facing the Crisis of Democracy: Risks and Challenges", explores the communication of the main conflicts that put integrity and geopolitics at risk. Drawing upon different methods, the contributions offer insightful findings on the role of communication by public institutions in crisis management and the actions of journalists and citizens. Therefore, this reprint furthers our understanding of how to deal with problems such as audiences' distrust in politics, citizens' disaffection with the media, and institutions' loss of credibility.

Schooling for Democracy in a Time of Global Crisis combines democratic theory with education practice to address the problem of a schooling that is for democracy, and points to the possibilities, limits and tensions of attempting to re-imagine education in more inclusive, collective and sustainable ways through democratic action. Contemporary liberal–democratic societies are faced with multiple complex global crises, which demand a range of responses, including how education can produce critical and engaged young people with a collective commitment to tackling the effects of the global climate crisis, growing social and economic inequalities, political instability, insecurity, fear and hate. This book examines how more critically democratic educational policies and practices, and the daily actions of learners, educators, leaders, communities and societies can work towards collective well-being, increased civic participation and commitment to an ecologically sustainable engagement with the planet. In addition to being a work of critical scholarly analysis, this book provides a manifesto for the possibilities of contemporary democratic education in a time of global crisis. This book will be of great interest to researchers, postgraduate students and policymakers in education.
