Reflections of a Damaged Child is more than a book of poems. It's an intimate collection of emotionally authentic poetry, profoundly succinct memoirs, and other provocative writings that creatively reflect the author's deepest feelings and thoughts regarding some of the most impactful moments of his life. Reflections of a Damaged Child is exactly what it says it is; written reflections of a damaged child that experienced complex trauma throughout his entire childhood and responded to that trauma in the worst way imaginable, only to redeem himself well into his adulthood and impact positive change in the community after spending over 35 years of his life in prison. Reflections of a Damaged Child is an artistically crafted account of how a severely abused kid faced his demons as an adult and triumphed over his tragedy while discovering both his passion and purpose in life during the process. For me, there is no greater feeling in the world than when I lose myself in my imagination, only to find myself in its creation! Ice Mike

Kids: Africa in Childhood Poetry powerfully conveys the wishful thinking, imaginations, experiences and critical reflections of children as they grow up. The volume grapples with a wide range of topics, sensations, encounters, emotions, imaginations and vistas commonplace in the psyche of many children across different geographical and cultural spaces. While the audacity of Maweres poetry finds its basis in the poets profound ability to uncover a multi-layered journey of childhood to adulthood, its merit lies in the character building, psychological, axiological and pedagogical lessons it imparts in todays youths: it teaches the youths the values of moral rectitude, critical observation and thinking, and careful questioning and reflection. This is a collection for all parents, teachers and the youths of between ages 5-18 who cherish a world ruled by peace and unconditional love of all by all.

With poetic words we try to comprehend the everyday mysticism we don't understand. To Happiness, Love, Joy and their sister Sorrow, and this sacred, energetic, and vibrant dance called life! ~Lisa Herman-Gagnon~ When I was young, life appeared simple and good. I was sure I had a good grasp of things and that I understood what "It" was all about. But that is part of the sweet innocence of youth. Now that I am older, I realize that life, in it's infinite splendor and wisdom, is full of twists and turns and surprises. I am no longer so concerned about keeping hold of that certainty I held so tightly to as a child. For I see life as an exciting whirlwind, with lessons to learn and places to see. Some fight against it, and others do not. Some just walk the "middle ground". I choose to be just one of many leaves blowing in her winds, asking my questions along the way and learning what it is to truly live. I have already found some answers in the many truths to be found in dreams, realities, the spirit, and in mans nature. And I have also come to realize that for some questions, their are just no answers.

Life is a journey. Often times and without choice, our actions and interactions within the environments in which we grow, live, work, and play, define our worldviews and shape who we are. Anyone who has faced traumatic events may look for an outlet to share their experiences in the hopes they are not alone in their struggles. In hindsight, however, the realization is that we are all human, and each and every one of us has a unique story to tell.
