This volume starts with an excellent overview of educational developments in 2010, which witnessed the formulation of the Outline of China’s National Plan for Medium and Long Term Educational Reform and Development 2010-2020. With the formulation of the Outline and the start of implementation in 2011, China saw progress by the government, at all levels, in prioritizing educational development. Scholars and practitioners discuss the significance of the Outline and its implications on the development and reform of pre-school education, basic education and higher education. Chinese Research Perspectives on Educational Development, Volume 2 is an English translation of selected articles from the 2013 Annual Report on Educational Development in China, produced by the 21st Century Education Development Research Academy in China. In this volume, readers are brought up to date on the main educational issues and events of 2012. 2012, the second year since the Outline of China’s National Plan for Medium and Long Term Education Reform and Development 2010-2020 was implemented, witnessed the deepening of education reform in terms of promoting education equity and improving rural education and balanced development of compulsory education. Chinese Research Perspectives on Society, (formerly the China Society Yearbook) Volume 1 continues the tradition of presenting precise and venerable academic principles by compiling the findings of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ subject research group for the “Analysis and Forecast of the Social Situation”. The focus of the research group centered around three themes for 2010-2011. The first theme focuses on the main tasks China is undertaking during its new stage of reform and development after the recent international financial crisis.
