Choosing Simplicity discusses the precepts and lifestyle of fully ordained nuns within the Buddhist tradition. The ordination vows act as guidelines to promote harmony both within the individual and within the community by regulating and thereby simplifying one's relationships to other sangha members and laypeople, as well as to the needs of daily life. Observing these precepts and practicing the Buddhadharma brings incredible benefit to oneself and others. Since the nuns' precepts include those for monks and have additional rules for nuns, this book is useful for anyone interested in monastic life. As a record of women's struggle not only to achieve a life of self-discipline, but also to create harmonious independent religious communities of women, Choosing Simplicity is a pioneering work.

The purpose of this book is to try to help anyone maintain what I call living on top of the mountain: in a pure, contented, happy state of mind. I remember pockets in my life when I was so happy, but wondered why they were so f leeting. It was like reaching the top of a mountainbut never being able to stay there. I found myself always sliding slowly backwards, or simply standing in the valley below, looking up and wondering what happened. Over the years, Ive come to understand that the only way to stay near the top of the mountain is to constantly remind yourselfdaily, weekly, monthlyof all of the things that are important to you. Without constant reminders we forget how we got to the top and revert back to our old ways. It isnt even our fault, because its in our nature; it happens with or without our permission. We simply have to commit to combating it! I dont know about you, but I want to live a fulfilled life, with happiness, health, and accomplishments for myself, my family and the betterment of others. I want to live on top of the mountain every single day of my life, and Im willing to do what I can to try to accomplish that.

The life of a minimalist does not have to be deprived. It is simple living focused on what is truly needed to make you happy. It can be filled with enriching experiences, as demonstrated by Peter's life. Of humble beginnings, Peter is currently financially independent not through winning a lottery, inheriting wealth, or joining a start-up. In this book, Peter poses questions, provides facts, and shares his personal experience. It is a timely call to examine one's life, to achieve financial independence, to attain good health, and to create a better planet for all. What some readers have said about the book "very timely and thought-provoking" "Book is worth every cent!" "I strongly recommend this book to my clients" Awarded 5 stars by most Amazon reviewers "Lawrence's book is short, and his prose is easy and unadorned. Readers may occasionally stumble over an awkwayd phrase, but they will never doubt the authenticity of the writer of the clarity of his message" Received 4 of 5 Stars - Reviewed by ForeWord CLARION To purchase book from Amazon.com, Please Click To purchase book from Barnes & Noble, Please Click

A frank, practical, and entertaining exploration of the pleasures and complexities of living on small islands. Many people dream of living simple lives on small islands, but few are aware of some of the unique challenges that accompany this distinctive lifestyle. From negotiating surrounding waters to creating a sustainable home and making a viable life away from urban conveniences, small-island living can be rewarding or difficult (or both), depending on myriad circumstances. Complicated Simplicity: Island Life in the Pacific Northwest draws on a variety sources to contextualize peoples' enduring fascination with islands worldwide, including the author's own experiences growing up on Bath Island (off Gabriola) and her interviews with over twenty intrepid figures who live on the San Juan Islands, the Gulf Islands, the Discovery Islands, and in Clayoquot Sound. Ingenuity, tenacity, and a passion for living in these special places shine through in the personal stories, as does a shared concern for safety, sustainability, and thoughtful stewardship. Engaging, inspiring, and often funny, Complicated Simplicity offers readers honest and useful insights on the joys, perils, and rewards of island life.
