Excerpt from Christ in Creation and Ethical Monism The title of this volume is taken directly from the first three of its essays, but it also suggests a thread of connection which runs through the entire book. Most of the papers which are here collected have previously appeared in theological or religious journals: some of them however are now printed for the first time. Addresses delivered upon various occasions are included in the number, partly in response to requests that they might be put into accessible and permanent form. With slight exceptions they are now published precisely as they were first given: it has not been thought best to deprive them of whatever local interest or significance they may have derived from their original surroundings. This may also account for possible colloquialisms and repetitions, though it is hoped that these may be found infrequent. The author has no wish to conceal from the reader that the whole work has an autobiographical air. It is a series of guesses at truth. He trusts that the intimation of a new point of view may have its value, even though there is only approximation to a system and in spite of some remaining inconsistency. Doubts which occur at the beginning may perchance be removed farther on. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Evangelical theology strives to be evangelical, conservative, and contemporary. In a world in which everyone is "Christian," evangelical theology provides a balanced position between fundamentalism and liberalism. While theological debates within the family will occur, to be evangelical is a breath of fresh air for many. However, we do not live in such a world. We do find ourselves living in a secular, global society. It is secular because no religious organization dictates how we live our lives. It is global for at least two reasons. First, our technology brings us immediately in contact with those faraway places. Second, and of more importance, we can simply step outside our front doors and encounter our neighborhoods that reflect a global pluralism. This raises the question, how shall we then live? The intent of An Evangelical Theology of Religions is to suggest a direction for evangelicals to think about the secular, global society in which they live in a way that is not only conservative but also evangelical and contemporary. The final essay strives to address the evangelical aspect of our tradition that places an emphasis on the Great Commission and the law of love.

Christians trying to "save the planet" have to relate "creation" with "salvation." This volume explores the ways in which classic theologies have approached these tasks.

Excerpt from The Ethical Teaching of Jesus This book originated from a course of lectures, which were prepared for the students of the Union Theological Seminary, in the fulfilment of my duty as Professor of Biblical Theology. The field of Bib lical Theology may be divided into three divisions. Biblical Religion, Biblical Faith, and Biblical Ethics (see General Introduction to the Study of Holy Scripture pp. 604 sq). After the completion of the courses on Biblical Religion and Biblical Faith I undertook an inductive study of Biblical Ethics. This I found to be a comparatively unexplored field; for most scholars have devoted their attention to the central theme, the Biblical Faith: many to the Re ligion of the Old Testament; but few to the Ethics, either of the Old Testament, or the New Testament; and these few have for the most part considered the subject on the basis of selected passages for homi letical or practical purposes from the point of view of the ethical Philosophy, which they held. My atten tion was first given to the ethics of the Old Testa ment, after which I made a complete inductive study of the Ethics of Jesus. This study was revised sev eral times as the lectures were repeated to different classes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
