This book is the first ever collection on diasporic screen production in New Zealand. Through contributions by a diverse range of local and international scholars, it identifies the central characteristics, histories, practices and trajectories of screen media made by and/or about migrant and diasporic peoples in New Zealand, including Asians, Pacific Islanders and other communities. It addresses issues pertinent to representation of migrant and diasporic life and experience on screen, and showcases critical dialogues with directors, scriptwriters, producers and other key figures whose work reflects experiences of migration, diaspora and multiculturalism in contemporary New Zealand. With a foreword by Hamid Naficy, the key theorist of accented cinema, this comprehensive collection addresses essential questions about migrant, multicultural and diasporic screen media, policies of representation, and the new aesthetic styles and production regimes emerging from New Zealand film and TV. This wide-ranging volume is the first to examine the characteristics, dynamics and wider implications of recently emerging regional production, dissemination, marketing and consumption systems of popular culture in East and Southeast Asia. Using tools based in a variety of disciplines - organizational analysis and sociology, cultural and media studies, and political science and history - it elucidates the underlying cultural economics and the processes of region-wide appropriation of cultural formulas and styles. Through discussions of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Philippine and Indonesian culture industries, the authors in the book describe a major shift in Asia's popular culture markets toward arrangements that transcend autonomous national economies by organizing and locating production, distribution, and consumption of cultural goods on a regional scale. Specifically, the authors deal with patterns of co-production and collaboration in the making and marketing of cultural commodities such as movies, music, comics, and animation. The book uses case studies to explore the production and exploitation of cultural imaginaries within the context of intensive regional circulation of cultural commodities and images. Drawing on empirically-based accounts of co-production and collaboration in East and Southeast Asia's popular culture, it adopts a regional framework to analyze the complex interrelationships among cultural industries. This focus on a regional economy of transcultural production provides an important corrective to the limitations of previous studies that consider cultural products as text and use them to investigate the "meaning" of popular culture.

We Interrupt This Program tells the story of how Indigenous people are using media tactics or interventions in art, film, television, and journalism to disrupt Canada’s national narratives and rewrite them from Indigenous perspectives. Accounts of strategically chosen moments such as survivor testimonies at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission combined with conversations with CBC reporter Duncan McCue and artists such as Kent Monkman bring to life Brady and Kelly’s powerful argument that media tactics can be employed to change Canadian institutions from within. Supranational Horrors: Italian and Spanish Horror Cinema since 1968 moves beyond national cinema discourse in considering the horror production of two Southern European countries, Italy and Spain.
