The Collected Works of W. B. Yeats, Volume IX: Early Articles and Reviews is part of a fourteen-volume series under the general editorship of eminent Yeats scholars Richard J. Finneran and George Mills Harper. This first complete edition includes virtually all of the Nobel laureate's published work, in authoritative texts with extensive explanatory notes. Coedited by John P. Frayne and Madeleine Marchaterre, Early Articles and Reviews assembles the earliest examples of Yeats's critical prose, from 1886 to the end of the century -- articles and reviews that were not collected into book form by the poet himself. Gathered together now, they show the earliest development of Yeats's ideas on poetry, the role of literature, Irish literature, the formation of an Irish national theater, and the occult, as well as Yeats's interaction with his contemporary writers. As seen here, Yeats's vigorous activity as magazine critic and propagandist for the Irish literary cause belies the popular picture created by his poetry of the "Celtic Twilight" period, that of an idealistic dreamer in flight from the harsh realities of the practical world. This new volume adds four years' worth of Yeats's writings not included in a previous (1970) edition of his early articles and reviews. It also greatly expands the background notes and textual notes, bringing this compilation up to date with the busy world of Yeats scholarship over the last three decades. Early Articles and Reviews is an essential sourcebook illuminating Yeat's reading, his influences, and his literary opinions about other poets and writers.

With the present ninth volume we bring to a conclusion the edition of the Collected Papers of Professor H.A. Lorentz. It contains the evidence of his constant activity to promote the interest in science of a larger public, in particular of his country men, by addresses on se veraloccasions, by articles in magazines and newspapers, and other wise. In a certain way in this part of his work he belongs more partic ularly to his country, therefore we reproduce it in the original lang uage, with the exception of his inaugural address as Leiden professor early in I878, which readers abroad might be interested in. The sketch of Ludwig Boltzmann, in the German language, contains a most powerful and deep-going survey of the scientific work of this genius. In several places the character of the man's personality rather than that 0/ the scientist reveals itself, his attitude towards various problems and his personal views. In his first address he refers to the value of mathematics, we hear his dislike lor too vivid visual speculations and crude hypotheses, his taste lor the soberness of mathematical formulae, where he argues that the fundamental principles must needs escape further explanation. On page 54 we read what he said about determin ism, and on page I8I he expresses himself on the relation of matter and mind. His intimate feelings on space and time, and the aether, are touched upon on pages 240, 26I, 274.

Volume nine includes five books published between 2003 and 2009, a set of cards that present the Shambhala warrior slogans, and eighteen articles and interviews, all from 1983 or earlier. The Collected Works of Chögyam Trungpa brings together in ten volumes the writings of one of the first and most influential and inspirational Tibetan teachers to present Buddhism in the West. Organized by theme, the collection includes full-length books as well as articles, seminar transcripts, poems, plays, and interviews, many of which have never before been available in book form. From memoirs of his escape from Chinese-occupied Tibet to insightful discussions of psychology, mind, and meditation; from original verse and calligraphy to the esoteric lore of tantric Buddhism—the impressive range of Trungpa’s vision, talents, and teachings is showcased in this landmark series. Volume Nine contains an extremely diverse group of teachings. It includes both early and later talks, from an article published in 1966 in India to books published in the new millennium to material from a set of cards that present the Shambhala warrior slogans. The subject matter ranges from Zen to dharma art, from Shambhala politics to Vajrayana buddhadharma. The selected writings in this book are articles from before Chögyam Trungpa’s death in 1987 and include two interviews and several previously unpublished pieces.

The Church with a Human Face: A New Expanded Theology of Ministry elaborates historically and theologically the main line of his argument. It further includes reactions and reflections on criticism he received. The work outlines the evolution of ecclesiastical office, starting with Jesus Christ and his messianic community, followed by a description of the practice and theology of ministry in the early Christian communities, and tracing different forms of ministry in the history of the Church. Of particular interest is the section on the 'Complaints of the People', which deals with the discontent of many connected with the position of women and married priests. As long as women are not allowed to participate fully in the decisions of the Church, Schillebeeckx argues, they will not be liberated, and their complaints will remain a fundamental charge that challenges the church.

Aion, originally published in German in 1951, is one of the major works of Jung's later years. The central theme of the volume is the symbolic representation of the psychic totality through the concept of the Self, whose traditional historical equivalent is the figure of Christ. Jung demonstrates his thesis by an investigation of the Allegoria Christi, especially the fish symbol, but also of Gnostic and alchemical symbolism, which he treats as phenomena of cultural assimilation. The first four chapters, on the ego, the shadow, and the anima and animus, provide a valuable summation of these key concepts in Jung's system of psychology.
