Communications Navigation Sensing And Services Conasense

During the last decade there was a shift from wireless and mobile communications technology, networks and applications towards integration of radio with other disciplines. Integration of navigation, sensing and services allow for entering new areas in which many requirements from individuals and organizations are satisfied.Potential applications are manifold. Developments for realizing these new application areas will cause a boost on new systems demonstrating the potentials of this integration approach.In this first book the fundamentals of this new approach on integrated communication, navigation, sensing and services (Conasense) will be elucidated. Furthermore, several applications illustrate some of the aims of Conasense. Two major areas have been selected1. Quality of life2. Intelligent Conasense architecturesTopics in the book on 'quality of life' include:• Visionary plans on health, security, neurophysics, indoor and outdoor safeguarding: in all these areas new Conasense technology and systems are essential.Topics in the book on intelligent Conasense architectures concern:• a framework describing novelties in Conasense technology needed to realize the aimed improve in 'quality of life'.• Breakthroughs on full integration of space-based and terrestrial communication and navigation systems with advanced high resolution sensing of the local environment supplemented with geographical information at regionals, national and international scales.

Activities on integrated communications, navigation, sensing and services are urgently needed in a wide range of human-centered and/or device-centered system applications. They require a multi-disciplinary approach. It is foreseen that the economic scale of these activities are comparable with the present scale of wireless communications. Aim The overall aim of the Journal of Communication, Navigation, Sensing and Services (CONASENSE) is to provide a common platform for exchanging ideas among the communities, both the academic and industrial, involved in the fields of Communications, Navigation and Sensing, with emphasis on multidisciplinary views and Smart/Intelligent services that require the effective and efficient integration of these three fields of research and development. Scope The Journal will publish articles on novel research and the latest advances, in the field of communication (in particular, wireless communication), navigation and sensing with special emphasis on the challenges, new concepts and future enablers for the interaction/integration of these technologies for the successful provision of smart/intelligent services. The fields of interest include: All communications/sensing/navigation systems and techniques, protocols which enable awareness of the physical environment, effective and fast feedback loops between actuation and sensing, a flexible and cognitive architecture which comply with essential requirements like safety, security, near-zero power consumption as well as size, usability and adaptability constraints. Control theory aspects in presence of wireless or lossy feedback links (i.e. network control theory), distributed control systems; Services and applications such as smart grid, Ambient Assisted Living, Ambient-Intelligence, Smart Cities, Smart Environment, Context-aware services, location-based services, e-Health, but more in general innovative services and applications for contributing to solving societal challenges. Data management such as data mining, data retrieval, decision-making algorithms.

Security within CONASENSE Paragon describes in particular the cyber security issues in the field of Communication, Navigation, Sensing and Services within the broad platform of CTIF Global Capsule (CGC). This covers future technologies and its enablers, smart cities, crowd computing, reliable and secure communication interface, satellite unnamed air vehicles, wireless sensor networks, data analytics and deep learning, remotely piloted aircraft system and public safety, network neutrality, business ecosystem innovation and so on.

Breakthroughs in Smart City Implementation should give answers on a wide variety of present social, political and technological problems. Green and long-lasting solutions are needed in coming 10 years and beyond on areas as green and long lasting solutions for improving air quality, quality of life of residents in cities, traffic congestions and many more.Two Conasense branches, established in China and in India, report in six book chapters on initiatives needed to overcome the obvious shortcomings at present. Three more chapters complete this fifth Conasense book: an introductory chapter concerning Smart City from Conasense perspective, a chapter showing that not technology but the people in the cities are most important and a chapter on recent results and prospects of “Human in the Loop” in smart vehicular systems.

6G is currently under definition, being often addressed from a plain telecommunications perspective as an evolutionary paradigm that represents an extension of 5G. Having as a horizon 2030, 6G initiatives are being deployed across the globe to further ignite the development of 6G services. At its philosophical core, 6G embodies the "human in the loop" principle. The research effort being developed towards 6G requires an interdisciplinary approach that ignites discussion across different key technological sectors, ranging from communications up to services and business cases. The contributions of this book to research in the field concern an evolutionary and interdisciplinary design of 6G as a paradigm that can be addressed by working together four different computational areas: communications; satellites and navigation; sensing; services. The book is derived from initial brainstorming that was developed during the 11th CONASENSE Symposium held in October 2021 in fortiss, Munich, Germany. Several international experts contribute to an overview of 6G key challenges, new networking trends and challenges to be overcome, and advanced 6G services. The book starts with a perspective on 6G challenges and use-cases beyond the 2030 horizon, to then continue to address the role of non-terrestrial networks and cognitive, service-centric satellite networks in future 6G services. Still with focus on 6G adaptive networking, the book continues with a debate on the need to integrate social awareness based on an interdisciplinary approach in network operations. Then, specific examples of advanced services (quantum imaging and holography; localization of the Internet of remote things) are discussed. The book is, therefore, intended to assist in developing critical thinking to back up novel networking, applications, and services towards 6G.

The future society would be ushered in a new communication era with the emergence of 5G. 5G would be significantly different, especially, in terms of architecture and operation in comparison with the previous communication generations (4G, 3G...). This book discusses the various aspects of the architecture, operation, possible challenges, and mechanisms to overcome them.
