Composite Systems Decisions

Composite decisions are decisions consisting of interconnected parts (subdecisions) and they correspond to a composite (composable, modular, decomposable) system. The material will be of interest to scientists (e.g., mathematicians, computer scientists, economists, social engineers,etc.). The book can be used as a text for courses (for example: systems engineering, system design, life cycle engineering, engineering design, combinatorial synthesis) at the level of undergraduate (a compressed version), graduate/PhD levels and for continuing education.

Decision making arises when we wish to select the best possible course of action from a set of alternatives. With advancements of the digital technologies, it is easy, and almost instantaneous, to gather a large volume of information and/or data pertaining to a problem that we want to solve. For instance, the world-wi- web is perhaps the primary source of information and/or data that we often turn to when we face a decision making problem. However, the information and/or data that we obtain from the real world often are complex, and comprise various kinds of noise. Besides, real-world information and/or data often are incomplete and ambiguous, owing to uncertainties of the environments. All these make decision making a challenging task. To cope with the challenges of decision making, - searchers have designed and developed a variety of decision support systems to provide assistance in human decision making processes. The main aim of this book is to provide a small collection of techniques stemmed from artificial intelligence, as well as other complementary methodo- gies, that are useful for the design and development of intelligent decision support systems. Application examples of how these intelligent decision support systems can be utilized to help tackle a variety of real-world problems in different - mains, e. g. business, management, manufacturing, transportation and food ind- tries, and biomedicine, are also presented. A total of twenty chapters, which can be broadly divided into two parts, i. e.

ISKE2009 is the fourth in a series of conferences on Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering. The ISKE2009 proceedings covers state-of-the-art research and development in various areas of Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering, particularly of Intelligent Decision Making Systems.

As a leader or responsible person we often stuck with decision-making, It's our job to make decisions that are in the best interest of the whole organisation or to ourselves. We must consider the good of many, not of a few. This is a big responsibility and very often people don't appreciate our efforts. In fact, many times people get angry at us because of the decisions we make to help them. In this book we discuss decision-making style. Not the decision itself, but style. We hope that readers will appreciate this effort.

For manufacturers of complex engineering equipment, the focus on service and achieving outcomes for customers is the key to growth. Yet, the capability to provide service for complex engineered products is less understood. Taking a trans-disciplinary approach, Complex Engineering Service Systems covers various aspects of service in complex engineering systems, with perspectives from engineering, management, design, operations research, strategy, marketing and operations management that are relevant to different disciplines, organisation functions, and geographic locations. The focus is on the many facets of complex engineering service systems around a core integrative framework of three value transformations – that of material/equipment, information and people. Complex Engineering Service Systems is the outcome of the EPSRC/BAE Systems S4T (Service Support Solutions: Strategy and Transition) research programme of 10 universities and 27 researchers, which examined how high-value manufacturers of complex engineering products adapt to a multi-partnered environment to design and deliver value in a service system. Complex Engineering Service Systems aims to be the main source of knowledge for academics and professionals in the research and practice of contracting, managing, designing, leading, and delivering complex engineering service systems. The book takes a value-based approach to integrating equipment and human factors into a total service provision. In doing so, it aims to advance the field of service systems and engineering.

Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete IX The highly successful International Conference series on Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete is a major forum for researchers, practitioners, and engineers to share and discuss their research, practical experience and innovations related to composite constructions in steel and concrete. Composite Construction is a key consideration in the design of buildings and infrastructure. Significant advances in research and development have increased the knowledge of the structural performance of composite structures. Some areas are becoming well understood and implemented in the design practice, codes and standards worldwide, while others like, e.g., application of high-performance materials or dismountable and reusable composite members need further studies; trends that are reflected by the conference papers. The 62 contributions contained in this book cover a wide variety of topics, including composite beams, composite columns, composite decks, joints, shear connections, fire behavior, seismic behavior, fatigue and fracture, codification, composite bridges, innovative hybrid structures, numerical investigations and practical applications. The Papers are peer-reviewed by the Scientific Board and may be adapted based on the outcome of the discussions during the conference. This book therefore summarizes the state-of-the-art in composite construction worldwide, as presented at the 9th International Conference on Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete hosted by the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, University of Stuttgart, RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau and University of Luxembourg, representing the work of authors from 18 countries.
