Contributions To Latin Lexicography

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Excerpt from Contributions to Latin Lexicography By the summer of 1887 I had completed nearly all the letter A (a tenth part Of the whole work), and had also written a number of articles and notes under the other letters. The Delegates Of the Press then made a second proposal, that I should publish, in a volume of moderate size, such parts of my manuscript as appeared to me to contain additions to, or improvements upon, what may be found in the current latin-english dictionaries. It is necessary to recapitulate these facts, in order to explain the fragmentary character of the present work. The volume contains about half of what I had written under the letter A, and most of my notes and articles under the other letters.
