This suspenseful true story of a drug cartel hitman who got away with murder after murder in California's Central Valley over three decades reveals how the criminal justice system fails our most vulnerable immigrant communities. On the surface, fifty-eight-year-old Jose Martinez didn't seem evil or even that remarkable—just a regular neighbor, good with cars and devoted to his family. But in between taking his children to Disneyland and visiting his mom, Martinez was also one of the most skilled professional killers police had ever seen. He tracked one victim to one of the wealthiest corners of America, a horse ranch in Santa Barbara, and shot him dead in the morning sunlight, setting off a decades-long manhunt. He shot another man, a farmworker, right in front of his young wife as they drove to work in the fields. The widow would wait decades for justice. Those were murders for hire. Others he killed for vengeance. How did Martinez manage to evade law enforcement for so long with little more than a slap on the wrist? Because he understood a dark truth about the criminal justice system: if you kill the "right people"—people who are poor, who aren't white, and who don't have anyone to speak up for them—you can get away with it. Melding the pacing and suspense of a true crime thriller with the rigor of top-notch investigative journalism, The Devil's Harvest follows award-winning reporter Jessica Garrison's relentless search for the truth as she traces the life of this assassin, the cops who were always a few steps behind him, and the families of his many victims. Drawing upon decades of case files, interrogation transcripts, on-the-ground reporting, and Martinez's chilling handwritten journals, The Devil's Harvest uses a gripping and often shocking narrative to dig into one of the most important moral questions haunting our politically divided nation today: Why do some deaths—and some lives—matter more than others? "Meticulously researched and tightly woven, The Devil's Harvest is an important story because it tells us that if [this] can happen in one place, then it can happen in any place. And that's damn scary." —Michael Connelly, New York Times bestselling author of The Closers, The Lincoln Lawyer, and The Night Fire

After a secret drone strike on a civilian target in South Sudan, RAF air marshal George Bartholomew discovers that a piece of shrapnel traceable back to a British Reaper has been left behind at the scene. He will do anything to get it back, but he is not the only one. Dissatisfied with his life and ousted from the marital bed, Associate Professor Gabriel Cockburn, an ambitious botanist at Bristol University, sets out to South Sudan in pursuit of a rare plant that is crucial to his research. A political thriller that spans the globe, from the halls of Bristol University and London’s secretive MI6 building to the dusty streets of Juba and the refugee camps in war-torn South Sudan, Devil’s Harvest exposes the dark truths of the international arms trade and the plight of the world’s newest country.

Six months after the apocalypse, Rachel Rosenberg desperately wants to find her family. When a forty-foot monster immediately interrupts their quest, Israeli soldiers direct them towards an underground bunker. But upon arrival, Shaun is shocked to discover a hidden city under the control of an evil Supreme Master. In a prequel short story for the Doormaker series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jamie Thornton, discover what happened the day Esson vanished. “…traveling to other worlds is hardly a new concept in fantasy, [but] the idea of having no control over it as well as it affecting mundane life like being unable to open doors is wonderfully terrifying. It’s something Stephen King would come up with and makes the opening very evocative…” - BookNest, C.T. Phipps ★★★★★ "Imagine not being able to open a door without mistakenly opening a portal to another world. It might sound glamorous to some people, but this "gift/curse" occurs whenever any type of door is opened, even a refrigerator...Once again Jamie Thornton has created a winner." - Amie's Book Reviews ★★★★★ Two hours. One interstellar drug deal. One family rule has shaped Esson’s life: never open a door. Esson comes from a family of doormakers—people who unleash otherworldly violence when they open something even as simple as a refrigerator door. Esson’s family lied to him. Esson didn’t die when he opened a door. But if Esson doesn’t track down some magical drugs within the next two hours, the drug dealer he got involved with might just kill him anyway. Interview with the Author Q - In what order should people read the Doormaker series? Who is likely to enjoy the series? The short story (Devil’s Harvest) and the short novel (Torchlighters) could be read and enjoyed at any point during the series, but otherwise I recommend the following reading order: Devil’s Harvest (Prequel Short Story), Rock Heaven: Book 1, Torchlighters, Tower of Shadows: Book 2, Library of Souls: Book 3, The One Door: Book 4. Reviewers describe the Doormaker series like HIS DARK MATERIALS meets SLIDERS. Also, the Doormaker series has dragons. These dragons don’t breathe fire (sorry), and are called Klylups. And there are some seriously dark secrets and history you'll discover about them. Q - Why did you decide to write the Doormaker series? I’m a voracious reader of fantasy and science fiction: Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series, Cassandra Clare, Bella Forrest Jeff Wheeler, Sarah J Maas, Rachel E Carter, Philip Pullman, to name a few of my favorites. I wanted to write a story about “The One,” but with some major twists. My main character, Maella (May-ella), starts totally unskilled and has been kept in the dark for her entire life about her family history, her magical abilities—everything. There’s a very good reason why, but no one will tell her that either! When I kept showing people the short story, they kept asking—actually demanding—to know what happened next. So I wrote how Maella starts so unskilled and innocent to eventually holding the fate of three worlds in her hands. So now there are 6 books in the series (lol). 4 full length novels, 1 short novel, and 1 short story. Q - Thanks for talking with me today. Any last words? Hmmm. This is toughest question of them all, but…To all the readers out there—may light show you the way and darkness show you the stars. Q - Do we have to read the Doormaker series to understand why these are your last words to this interview? Maybe. (Yes).

The shocking true case of demonic possession from the reporters who first covered it in the Boston Herald. The case was discussed and you can watch the real exorcism footage in the blockbuster horror film The Conjuring. When terrifying, bizarre things kept happening to a hard-working Massachusetts farmer, he did what anyone would do. First he went to the local police chief. Then he went to his priest. And then he went to Ed and Lorraine Warren, the world’s most famous demonologists who investigated the “The Amityville Horror” and other terrifying cases of demonic possession. It was the Warrens who called in one of America’s most renowned exorcists, Bishop Robert McKenna. What they all experienced is described in this extraordinary book. Absolutely terrifying. Absolutely true. Don't miss the Warrens' new film "Annabelle" (October, 2014).

Kim Liggett draws on her childhood during the Satanic Panic for a chilling tale of magic in The Last Harvest. "I plead the blood." Those were the last words seventeen-year-old golden boy quarterback Clay Tate heard rattling from his dad's throat when he discovered him dying on the barn floor of the Neely cattle ranch, clutching a crucifix to his chest. Now, on the first anniversary of the Midland, Oklahoma, slaughter, the whole town's looking at Clay like he might be next to go over the edge. Clay wants to forget the past, but the sons and daughters of the Preservation Society—a group of prominent farmers his dad accused of devil worship—won't leave him alone. Including Ali, his longtime crush, who suddenly wants to reignite their romance after a year of silence, and hated rival Tyler Neely, who's behaving like they're old friends. Even as Clay tries to reassure himself, creepy glances turn to sinister stares and strange coincidences build to gruesome rituals—but when he can never prove that any of it happened, Clay worries he might be following his dad down the path to insanity...or that something far more terrifying lies in wait around the corner.
