In this report the finance and reimbursement systems of health care in 18 European countries will be described: 12 EC and 6 EFTA countries. Besides a global description of the functioning of the systems three aspects will come up for discussion: 1) The financing of the overall system, which means the way inhabitants of a country pay for health care. Health care can be financed by individual payments in an insurance system (social and private) or by taxes in a national system. 2) The financing of subsystems: the reimbursement systems of hospitals and the professionals (specialists and general) practitioners). 3) Recent developments: the description of every country will finish with a paragraph of recent developments in the health care sektor.

The book will focus on three key aspects of delivery of child health services: service integration and coordination, public health measures, and enhancing the quality of care for children.
