Today, there are generally universities in Africa rather than ‘African universities’. The legitimacy of the university in Africa is under serious questions now because of its complicity in racism, patriarchy, sexism, colonialism, capitalism, genocide, epistemicide, linguicide, culturecide, and alienation. In other words, the university in Africa as we know it today is elitist and exclusionary. Therefore, rethinking the idea of the university is fundamental to overcoming its current deficiencies in the Global South. This volume, bringing together a number of national case studies and macro-analyses on the dynamics of changing higher education in the Global South, gestures towards the desired, imagined decolonial African university, which should be a site of multilingualism where African indigenous languages, cosmologies and ontologies become a central part of its identity and soul, intolerant of epistemicides, linguicides, and cultural imperialism, but a site of cognitive and social justice that fully embraces the idea that all human beings are born into valid, useful, relevant and legitimate knowledge systems.

These proceedings represent the work of contributors to the 15th European Conference on Management Leadership and Governance (ECMLG 2019), hosted by Polytechnic Institute of Porto, Porto Accounting and Business School, Portugal on 14-15 November 2019. The Conference Chair is Prof. Anabela Mesquita and the Programme Chair is Prof. Paulino Silva, all from Polytechnic Institute of Porto, Portugal. ECMLG is a well-established event on the academic research calendar and now, in its 15th year, the key aim remains the opportunity for participants to share ideas and meet the people who hold them. The scope of papers will ensure an interesting two days. The subjects covered illustrate the wide range of topics that fall into this important and ever-growing area of research. The opening keynote presentation is given by Luis Borges Gouveia, from the Universidade Fernando Pessoa, on the topic of Emerging Alternatives to Leadership and Governance in a Digital Ecosystem. Then, an afternoon keynote will be given by Manuel Perez Cota, University of Vigo, Spain, on the subject The Changing Role of Industry Knowledge for Global Businesses. The second day of the conference will open with an address by Isabel Ramos, University of Minho, Portugal, who will talk about Collective Attention to Digital Transformation: how Smart Organizations use IT. With an initial submission of 136 abstracts, after the double blind, peer review process there are 48 Academic research papers, 6 PhD research papers, 1 Masters Research paper, 1 non-academic paper and 6 work-in-progress papers published in these Conference Proceedings. These papers represent research from Australia, Brazil, Check Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Sweden, UAE, and UK.

These Proceedings represent the work of contributors to the 12th European Conference on Management Leadership and Governance held this year at the College of Management, National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (NUPSPA-SNSPA), Bucharest, Romania 10-11 November 2016. The Conference Chair is Dr Florina Pinzaru from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA-SNSPA), Bucharest, and the Programme Chair is Dr Constantin Bratianu, from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania. Keynote presentations are given by Dr Michael Stoica, Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the School of Business, Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas, USA and Dr. Mugur Tolici, Human Resources Director of the National Bank of Romania. The Conference offers an opportunity for scholars and practitioners interested in the issues related to Management, Leadership and Governance to share their thinking and research findings. These fields of study are broadly described as including issues related to the management of the organisations' resources, the interface between senior management and the formal governance of the organisation. This Conference provides a forum for discussion, collaboration and intellectual exchange for all those interested in any of these fields of research or practice. With an initial submission of 122 abstracts, after the double blind, peer review process there are 34 academic papers, 5 PhD research papers and 3 Work in Progress papers in these Conference Proceedings. The second day of the conference Keynote presentation is given by Dr Jayshina Punwasi MBChB (UCT), MBA (WBS), a Clinical Manager at the Helen Joseph Hospital in Gauteng, South Africa on the topic of Befriending uncertainty: When life and death decisions are made everyday. With an initial submission 75 abstracts, after the double blind, peer review process there are 81 Academic research papers and 4 PhD research papers published in these Conference Proceedings.
