Volume I of the series on ASEAN-China Relations focused on trends and patterns in bilateral economic relations between ASEAN countries on the one hand, and China on the other. Volume II focused on macroeconomic and institutional developments in China and in selected sectors in ASEAN and China, and their implications for bilateral economic relations. This third volume focuses on developments in the global arena and in the Pacific and their impact on bilateral economic relations between ASEAN and China. The papers cover the following - economic developments in the Pacific region, the economic role of Japan and the United States, industrial restructuring in the Asian Newly Industrializing Economies, the special role of Hong Kong, prospects for Pacific economic cooperation, and China's membership in GATT.

Though considerable research literature is now available on China–India relations, most of it still follows a conventional narrative, viewing the relationship through the narrow conflictual prism limited to South Asia than in the new, larger perspective, especially in the context of emerging East Asian dynamics. This book offers comprehensive analyses of some of these issues in papers addressing two broad themes. One, significant trends in the relationship between China and India on a range of issues, including economic development models, their military strategies, and the boundary dispute; and two, how others are responding to the rise of India and China and their impact on East Asia. Together, the chapters constitute a comprehensive study on both China–India relations and their concurrent rise, including a variety of perspectives and methodologies. This volume is the result of collaborative research between ASEAN and South Asian scholars and deals with economic relations between two important regions.

With contributions by a variety of internationally distinguished scholars on international law, world trade, business law and development, this unique examination of the roles of China and India in the new world economy adopts the perspectives of international economic law and comparative law. The two countries are compared with respect to issues concerning trade and development, the World Trade Organization, international dispute settlement, regional/free trade agreements, outsourcing, international investment, foreign investment, corporate governance, competition law and policy, and law and development in general.
