The concept of a "smart city" is used widely in general; however, it is hard to explain because of the complexity and multidimensionality of this notion. However, the essential qualification for being a smart city is to achieve "sustainable social, environmental, and economic development" and boost the living standards of society based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial intelligence (AI). AI in smart cities has become an important aspect for cities that face great challenges to make smart decisions for social well-being, particularly cybersecurity and corporate sustainability. In this context, we aim to contribute literature with a value-added approach where various AI applications of smart cities are discussed from a different perspective. First, we start by discussing the conceptual design, modeling, and determination of components for the sustainability of a smart city structure. Since smart cities operate on spatial-based data, it is important to design, operate, and manage smart city elements using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technologies. Second, we define the structure, type, unit, and functionality of the layers to be placed on the GIS to achieve best practices based on Industry 4.0 components. Transportation is one of the key indicators of smart cities, so it is critical to make transportation in smart cities accessible for different disabled groups by using AI technologies. Third, we demonstrate what kinds of technologies should be used for which disabled groups in different transportation vehicles with specific examples. Finally, we create a discussion platform for processes and sub-processes such as waste management, emergency management, risk management, and data management for establishing smart cities including the financial and ethical aspects.

"A Comprehensive Framework for Adapting National Intelligence for Domestic Law Enforcement" is a groundbreaking book that delves into the intricate process of integrating sophisticated national intelligence methodologies into domestic law enforcement practices. Authored by a seasoned expert in the field of intelligence, this book emerges as a critical resource for military leaders, policymakers, members of the intelligence community, and law enforcement personnel. This insightful work begins by exploring the historical evolution of intelligence sharing, offering a thorough analysis of past and present strategies. It then seamlessly transitions into discussing the current challenges and opportunities faced in integrating national intelligence into domestic law enforcement. The book provides an in-depth examination of legal and ethical frameworks, ensuring that the proposed methods adhere to the highest standards of civil liberties and legal compliance. Central to the book is the development of a comprehensive framework that bridges the gap between national intelligence operations and local law enforcement requirements. This framework not only addresses operational aspects but also focuses on the technological advancements, such as AI and big data analytics, reshaping intelligence gathering and analysis. The author brings to light the importance of cross-sector collaboration, suggesting innovative ways to enhance cooperation between various sectors – government, private, and non-profit – in intelligence activities. Case studies of successful intelligence collaboration, both domestic and international, are meticulously analyzed, offering practical insights and lessons learned. Moreover, the book addresses the training and skill development necessary for effectively adapting national intelligence practices in a domestic context. It emphasizes the need for continuous professional development and the cultivation of a learning culture within law enforcement agencies. "A Comprehensive Framework for Adapting National Intelligence for Domestic Law Enforcement" concludes with strategic recommendations for policy and practice, advocating for a progressive approach towards intelligence integration. This book is an invaluable asset for anyone involved in or interested in the intersection of national security, intelligence, and domestic law enforcement, providing a comprehensive guide to navigating this complex and evolving landscape.

Internet and World Wide Web platforms, big data analytics, software, social media and civic technologies allow for the creation of smart ecosystems in which connected intelligence emerges and disruptive social and eco-innovation flourishes. This book focuses on three grand challenges that matter for any territory, no matter where it is located: (i) smart growth, a path that more and more cities, regions and countries are adopting having realised the unlimited potential of growth that is based on knowledge, innovation and digital technologies; (ii) safety and security, which is a pre-requisite for quality of life in a world of intense social, natural and technological threats; and (iii) sustainability, use of renewable energy, protection of living ecosystems, addressing climate change and global warming in a period of rapid urbanisation that makes established sustainability models and planning patterns quickly obsolete. The core argument of the book is that problem-solving and novel solutions to these grand challenges emerge in smart ecosystems through connected intelligence. It is the broadest form of intelligence that combines capabilities from heterogeneous actors (humans, organisations, machines) and propel problem-solving through externalities and resource agglomeration, user engagement and collaboration, awareness and behaviour change. This book will be of interest to students and researchers of urban and regional studies, innovation studies, economic geography and urban planning, as well as urban policy makers.

This book offers the exchange of ideas between scientists and technicians from both the academic and industrial sector which is essential to facilitate the development of systems that can meet the ever-increasing demands of today’s society. The 18th International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence 2021 (DCAI 2021) is a forum to present the applications of innovative techniques for studying and solving complex problems in artificial intelligence and computing areas. The present edition brings together past experience, current work, and promising future trends associated with distributed computing, artificial intelligence, and their application in order to provide efficient solutions to real problems. This year’s technical program presents both high quality and diversity, with contributions in well-established and evolving areas of research. Specifically, 55 papers were submitted to main track and special sessions, by authors from 24 different countries, representing a truly “wide area network” of research activity. The DCAI’21 technical program has selected 21 papers, and, as in past editions, it will be special issues in ranked journals such as Electronics, Sensors, Systems, Robotics, Mathematical Biosciences and ADCAIJ. These special issues cover extended versions of the most highly regarded works. Moreover, DCAI'21 special sessions have been a very useful tool to complement the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest to the participating community.
