Enoch At 100

Enoch at 100 is a critical reassessment of Enoch Powell's legacy by some of the leading political figures, writers and commentators of the current age. The book covers the role of government and the state of the economy, the European Union, constitutional reform, immigration and social cohesion, climate change, energy policy and the environment, defence and foreign policy.

To celebrate the centenary of the 1911 Parliament Act, John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons, instigated a series of public lectures in which current parliamentarians assessed the careers and characters of parliamentary giants. Brothers Henry Enoch and Enoch Enoch came to Virginia before 1750, settling on the sparsely populated frontier west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Their Virginia years were defined by the French and Indian War (1755-1763) and their close association with young George Washington. By 1757, their children had begun to explore more westerly lands, where they ultimately resettled with their families in what is now Washington County, Pennsylvania. Henry Jr., David, and Enoch Enoch were among the first "over the mountain men," settling west of the Allegheny Mountains by 1767. Their Pennsylvania years were defined by the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) and the Indian Wars (1786-1795). By the turn of the century, the Enochs began looking west again, this time to the more promising lands of Ohio.

Created in conjunction with an exhaustive critical commentary, this is an English translation of '1 Enoch' taking into consideration all of the textual data now available the Ethiopic version, the Greek texts and the Dead Sea Aramaic fragments.

Covering the period from the height of Empire to Brexit and beyond, this book shows how the vote to leave the European Union increased hostilities towards racial and ethnic minorities and migrants. Concentrating on the education system, it asks whether populist views that there should be a British identity - or a Scottish, Irish or Welsh one - will prevail. Alternatively arguments based on equality, human rights and economic needs may prove more powerful. With renewed interest in the character of Enoch the prophet, I decided to publish in 14 point font not just the R.H. Charles Oxford translation of the Book of Enoch and the Richard Laurence translation of the Book of the Secrets of Enoch, but compile with them such obscure sources as the recently 2005 discovery of the Greek Account of Enoch the Prophet, the Aramaic Dead Sea Scroll fragments of 1 Enoch, Ogdias the Giant, the Manichean Book of the Giants, The Midrash of Semhazai and Aza, the Kebra Nagast 100, the Armenian Vision Of Enoch The Just, the Hebrew Third Book Of Enoch, Coptic Apocryphon of Enoch, and The Slavonic Two Tablets Of Enoch. It is my opinion that providing all of these sources together in one collection would better assist those seeking to understand more completely Enoch, his life, and involvement with the Watchers and Giants. This manuscript better expounds upon the context of the few texts we still have of those he left for us in greater capacity and clearer regard.

Enoch and the Giants by Victor Hill is a book that operates on several levels. For sure this will be of great interest to academics of the subject but Victor Hills’ books is also a read which acts as a modern parable, functioning on a simpler level with a message for us all. Enoch and the Giants is a modern day epic with commentary on heaven and earth of truly biblical proportions which will have as much appeal on a secular level as it will to disciples of the Bible. Translated directly from the original, the author is meticulous with his footnotes and referencing which act in tandem to provide commentary on and insight to the text. It is a revelation and almost a poetic story with a rhythm and meter all its own. A truly epic read.

Fifty years after James Bruce brought a copy of the Book of Enoch, found in Ethiopia, to England, Richard Laurence made a first modern translation. Later, R.H. Charles made another translation using some Greek excerpts, and more Ethiopian texts. Then recently, Michael A Knibb, using many texts, and partial texts, put together an ?adequate' translation. Yet, all of these translations are rough, obscure, and confusing to Christians of today. The Dead Sea Scrolls contained many copies and partial copies of the Book of Enoch, In the Dead Sea scrolls, there were found 17 copies. Comparitively, there were 30 copies of Psalms, 25 copies of Deuteronomy, 19 of Isaiah, 15 of Genesis and Exodus, 14 Of Jubilees. Jude validated The Book Of Enoch with his quote from it. Using all of the sources now available, along with an in-depth study of book, I have prepared this paraphrase/translation. Along with such, I have included an commentary to help in its comparison with the Bible. John D. Ladd was raised the son of an Assemblies of God pastor. He attended Northeast Bible College, in Pennsylvania, and later, Malone College, in Canton, Ohio. He pastored for many years, was ordained in the Assemblies of God, but later left to pastor independent churches. Preferring teaching to preaching, he has spent many years studying, reading books from the early church period, and translating\paraphrasing them for ease of use by Christians of today. This book of Enoch's has been translated, paraphrased, and now is being given commentary, to compare it with the Bible's message, to test it by the Word of God. How does it compare? Is it in agreement with the message and prophetic teachings of the Bible?
