Assesses the environmental impacts renewing the nuclear power plant operating license of the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant for a 20 year period.

This EIS includes the analysis by the NRC and Corps staff that considers and weighs the environmental impacts of building and operating two new nuclear units at the CPNPP site and at alternative sites, and mitigation measures available for reducing or avoiding adverse impacts.

This environmental impact statement (EIS) has been prepared in response to an application submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke) for two combined construction permits and operating licenses (combined licenses or COLs).

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations allow for the renewal of commercial nuclear power plant operating licenses. To support the license renewal environmental review process, the NRC published the Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (GEIS) in 1996. The proposed action considered in the GEIS is the renewal of nuclear power plant operating licenses.
