Euro Par 2008 Parallel Processing

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Parallel Computing, Euro-Par 2008, held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, in August 2008. The 86 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 264 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on support tools and environments; performance prediction and evaluation; scheduling and load balancing; high performance architectures and compilers; parallel and distributed databases; grid and cluster computing; peer-to-peer computing; distributed systems and algorithms; parallel and distributed programming; parallel numerical algorithms; distributed and high-performance multimedia; theory and algorithms for parallel computation; and high performance networks.

Parallel and distributed processing, although within the focus of computer science research for a long time, is gaining more and more importance in a wide spectrum of applications. These proceedings aim to demonstrate the use of parallel and distributed processing concepts in different application fields, and attempt to spark interest in novel research directions to parallel and high-performance computing research in general. The objective of these workshops is to specifically address researchers coming from university, industry and governmental research organizations and application-oriented companies in order to close the gap between purely scientific research and the applicab- ity of the research ideas to real-life problems. Euro-Par is an annual series of international conferences dedicated to the pro- tion and advancement of all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. The 2008 event was the 14th issue of the conference. Euro-Par has for a long time been eager to attract colocated events sharing the same goal of promoting the dev- opment of parallel and distributed computing, both as an industrial technique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. Since 2006, Euro-Par has been offering researchers the chance to co- cate advanced technical workshops back-to-back with the main conference.

Euro-Par is an annual series of international conferences dedicated to the p- motion and the advancement of all aspects of parallel computing. In Euro-Par, the ?eld of parallel computing is divided into the four broad categories of t- ory, high performance, cluster and grid, and distributed and mobile computing. These categories are further subdivided into 14 topics that focus on particular areas in parallel computing. The objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum for promoting the development of parallel computing both as an industrial te- nique and as an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. The target audience of Euro-Par c- sists of researchers in parallel computing in academic departments, government laboratories, and industrial organizations. Euro-Par 2009 was the 15th conference in the Euro-Par series, and was - ganized by the Parallel and Distributed Systems Group of Delft University of Technology in Delft, The Netherlands. The previous Euro-Par conferences took placeinStockholm,Lyon,Passau,Southampton,Toulouse,Munich,Manchester, Paderborn,Klagenfurt,Pisa,Lisbon, Dresden, Rennes, and Las Palmasde Gran Canaria. Euro-Par is an annual, international conference in Europe, covering all aspects of parallel and distributed processing.
