In Everyone a Sheriff, the word "sheriff" serves as a metaphor for programs involving citizens in social control initiatives. Partnership between community members and their local police force is at the heart of any effective strategy aimed at reducing urban crime and insecurity. Ordinary community residents represent a vast, untapped resource in the fight against crime, disorder, and fear. The real story of citizens long association with the policing function is revealed. The book highlights include: an in-depth examination of volunteerism primarily at the law enforcement level; the importance of preparing youth and minorities for careers in policing and homeland security; the need for transitioning police and citizen volunteers from serving not only as peacekeepers, but becoming "peacemakers"; a realistic view of various pitfalls when regular and volunteer police are thrust into patterns of co-existence when fighting crime out on the street or seeking solutions to crime; numerous examples of current police-sponsored citizen academies, police cadet and junior deputy programs; histories of the invention of police and citizen-supported neighborhood crime watch programs. The only way to successfully cross the divide between the police and public is to give meaning to the phrase: "the police are the people, and the people are the police."

On a sunny day in the town of Bloomington, a devastating occurrence happens. No, it’s not famine, or floods, or loss of your basic rights. The internet has gone down! And it will continue to be down! For a week! A whole week! Pandemonium! In a world that is so dependent on the internet for shopping, mailing, and posting pictures of cute babies, how will society function? Not well as it turns out. The Day the Internet Died hilariously explores how inept we are at dating, research, and basic human interactions when we don’t have a screen to look at. (A one-act version is also available.) Comedy Full-length. 70-85 minutes 10-50 actors, gender flexible

"Twelve Tingly Tales" is a mixture of fact and fiction. "Handyman," "John," "The Scientific Man," "Snake," "Toy Boy," and "Tough Guy," are complete works of the author's imagination. "Noises," however, is a story from his youth - one that was related to Hoskins by his parents when he was in his mid-twenties. Craig's father told him that his older brother and he slept through the ghostly brawl, and that he didn't get really scared until their mother turned on their bedroom light and there was no one in our kitchen. Craig's aunt related stories from her childhood upon which he based "Fearstruck," and "Katie." Essentially, they are as she told them and did really happen. Likewise, "Jason," and "Toto," were based upon truth. Hoskins' family did have two wonderful Labs with those names, and Jason did die suddenly after turning so sweet and attentive his last week. Toto did chase away a dog who threatened his Kelly. "Weeping Lady" is based upon a Mexican ghost story. Craig embellished the story with his American characters, but the essence of the story is the same. Read and enjoy... and think. Many times the truth is much stranger than fiction and much harder to believe.
