Welcome to the revised edition (September 2021) of Exalted Planets Part 1. When a planet gets exalted, it becomes very strong. However, exaltation of a planet doesn’t mean that such planet is benefic in nature. It can be benefic or malefic, depending on the overall horoscope in consideration. Exaltation of a planet is primarily a measure of its strength as well as its ease of operation, and not that of its functional nature in a horoscope. Vedic astrology lays various guidelines to decide functional nature of various planets in a horoscope. This book deals with exalted Sun, exalted Moon and exalted Jupiter. Benefic as well as malefic effects of these exalted planets have been discussed in each house of horoscope, along with relevant examples from horoscopes.

When a planet comes closer to Sun, more than a safer distance to be maintained, such planet may become weaker as Sun may burn out some of its strength. Such planet that loses some of its strength by virtue of being too close to Sun is called a combust planet. It means when such planet happens to be Moon, it is called combust Moon. Such combination of Sun and combust Moon can produce a wide variety of results in various houses of horoscope, depending on benefic/malefic nature of these two planets, their signs as well as nakshatras of placements, and on the overall theme of the horoscope under consideration. This book deals with the placements of combust Moon in the 4th, 5th and 6th houses of horoscope. Hence if a benefic planet goes retrograde in a horoscope, it may still give benefic results. Likewise, if a malefic planet goes retrograde in a horoscope, it may still give malefic results. When a planet goes retrograde, it may undergo some changes in its style of working, rather than in its nature of working. Due to such changes in its style of operation, retrograde Mercury may produce results, which may be different than those given by forward moving Mercury.
