Fatality Analysis Reporting System

The purpose of this document is to inform users of NHTSA's fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and National Automotive Sampling System General Estimates System (NASS GES) data about some of the more significant changes to the 2010 data as a result of the standardization of the data elements between the two systems.

The 2008 FARS data file used for the statistics in this report was created in May 2009. The updated final counts for 2007 are reflected in this report. The updated final counts for 2008 will be reflected in the 2009 report. The 2008 GES file used for the statistics in this report was completed in May 2009.

The 2003 FARS data file used for the statistics in this report was created in June 2004. The updated final counts for 2002 are reflected in this report. The updated final counts for 2003 will be reflected in the 2004 report. The 2003 GES file used for the statistics in this report was completed in June 2004.

The 2011 FARS data file used for the statistics in this report was created in August 2012. The updated final counts for 2010 are reflected in this report. The updated final counts for 2011 will be reflected in the 2008 report. The 2011 GES file used for the statistics in this report was completed in September 2012.

The 2004 FARS data file used for the statistics in this report was created in June 2005. The updated final counts for 2003 are reflected in this report. The updated final counts for 2004 will be reflected in the 2005 report. The 2004 GES file used for the statistics in this report was completed in June 2005.
