Ťhe Panćatantra, Jatakas, Kathāsaritasāgara, Hitopadeśa, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Eesop’s tales – the ancient folk compendiums have knowledge and wisdom for the people of all spheres. This is one of a series of Studies dealing with intellectual property and genetic resources, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions/folklore. The objectives of this Study were to examine how effective protection of folklore is being achieved in India, Indonesia and the Philippines so as to derive directions for future work in this field and also to assess the relevance of the Model Provisions drawn up for framing legislation in these countries.
