When Domenic's wife, Barbie, was diagnosed with a rare cancer called thymoma for the second time in eight years at age 33, he was confused, overwhelmed, and scared. Their sons were ages 3 and 10 months, and he had just started a new position as an in-house lawyer for a large international bank. While he read tons of inspirational stories about how individuals triumphed over illness, Domenic had trouble finding resources that could help him cope with the sickness of a loved one and show him how to use that turmoil as motivation for making impactful life changes. In From Tragedy to Triumph, Domenic recounts Barbie's courageous battle with rare cancer as a young mother and how it has motivated him to live a better life, filled with passion, empathy, and gratitude. Hundreds of thousands of people are being diagnosed with cancer every year, and Domenic hopes that they and their loved ones can use this story as a source of inspiration and healing.

It started with a worrisome lump in Donna’s neck. It was May 2017. At the time, John and Donna Corrigan were looking forward to the publication of John’s debut non-fiction title about the Red Knight. John had spent twenty-four years doing meticulous research on the Royal Canadian Air Force’s legendary solo-aerobatic jet performer. But, suddenly, that lump plunged the couple into a race for a diagnosis and prayers for an effective treatment. “Love Always” chronicles the many efforts and lessons learned on a journey that consumed the Corrigans for eighteen months. During that period, Donna endured two rounds of chemotherapy, a radical mastectomy, and twenty-five radiation treatments, followed by more radiation before she finally succumbed to Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), a rare and aggressive form of the disease. Written with the hope of helping others on their breast cancer journey, “Love Always” lays out the challenges and hopes for couples and families facing a potentially terminal breast cancer diagnosis. It isn’t pretty, but it shows there is a community of loving support, from family, friends, health care professionals and even strangers, making it possible to move through the bleakest of times with love, hope, and the knowledge that we are never alone. http://www.facebook.com/booksbyjohncharlescorrigan

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST • This inspiring, exquisitely observed memoir finds hope and beauty in the face of insurmountable odds as an idealistic young neurosurgeon attempts to answer the question What makes a life worth living? NAMED ONE OF PASTE’S BEST MEMOIRS OF THE DECADE • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The New York Times Book Review • People • NPR • The Washington Post • Slate • Harper’s Bazaar • Time Out New York • Publishers Weekly • BookPage Finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award in Creative Nonfiction and the Books for a Better Life Award in Inspirational Memoir At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated. When Breath Becomes Air chronicles Kalanithi’s transformation from a naïve medical student “possessed,” as he wrote, “by the question of what, given that all organisms die, makes a virtuous and meaningful life” into a neurosurgeon at Stanford working in the brain, the most critical place for human identity, and finally into a patient and new father confronting his own mortality. What makes life worth living in the face of death? What do you do when the future, no longer a ladder toward your goals in life, flattens out into a perpetual present? What does it mean to have a child, to nurture a new life as another fades away? These are some of the questions Kalanithi wrestles with in this profoundly moving, exquisitely observed memoir. Paul Kalanithi died in March 2015, while working on this book, yet his words live on as a guide and a gift to us all. “I began to realize that coming face to face with my own mortality, in a sense, had changed nothing and everything,” he wrote. “Seven words from Samuel Beckett began to repeat in my head: ‘I can’t go on. I’ll go on.’” When Breath Becomes Air is an unforgettable, life-affirming reflection on the challenge of facing death and on the relationship between doctor and patient, from a brilliant writer who became both.

Praise for Chasing Life "Cancer and death have a unique way of getting our attention. As a hospice physician, many of my patients used to tell me they became 'alive' only after facing cancer and death ... and some regretted all of the years and decades they spent 'sleep-walking.' Desiree and Rob in this book share what it means to be live fully aware, awake, and alive. If you want to live an abundant life - one that is fully woke - this book will grab, surprise, inspire, break, and renew you because everything you heard before is probably wrong. The abundant life is not about fame, money, and personal success." - James A. Avery, MD, Visiting Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Virginia "Love, we learn is not always about a fairy tale with happy endings. It's a tale of two people who in sharing their deepest vulnerabilities, discover each other and themselves wholeheartedly. In this vivid retelling of his 11 years caring for his wife, Robert challenges the reader to ask themselves essential life questions about how adversity calls on us to rise-up and embrace our fuller humanity. This is a story of love in its most transformative expression." - Mark Stolow, CEO, Huddol Journeys "Chasing Life is a heartbreaking and heartwarming story about two amazing individuals, Desiree and Rob, who shared the passion for life through transformative love and angelic compassion in the face of horrendous circumstances. Undaunted in her dedication to care for the suffering, while going through 11 years of her own recurring and worsening cancer, Desiree gave the full energy of her heart and soul to helping people with advanced illness. As a physician, she was an early champion of palliative care, and was able to help so many people through the most difficult times of their lives. All the while, Rob's inspirational, relentless support and devotion were a testament to the meaning of genuine love." - Csaba Mera, MD - built the nation's first healthplan-based palliative care program. "Chasing Life tells the story of two extraordinary people who, together, faced one of life's greatest challenges with grace. Robert Pardi shares his journey with his wife Dr. Desiree Pardi during which he was her warrior while she battled cancer. The lessons that Desiree learned from being both cancer patient and palliative care physician, and the many examples of Robert's path to resilience, are invaluable and should be shared with everyone. As if that isn't enough, this story is about much more; it is about great love. Robert and Desiree lived that love to the end, and by doing so set not only the example but also the bar for all us." - Trish Humenansky-Laub, Founder of Comfort in Their Journey LLC and Author of the Comfort in Their Journey Book Series

This is a book about my wifes nearly seven-year battle against stage 4 breast cancer. From my perspective as husband and caregiver, the book attempts to describe how my wife responded to her cancer diagnosis and then fought against the disease with grace, courage, faith, and optimism. Included are explanations of my wifes medical treatment and the effects of that treatment on her body, mind, and spirit. My wifes fearless fight against a deadly disease is an affirmation of love of family and friends, as well as a reminder that in life and death struggles, nothing surpasses in importance ones faith in God, a positive attitude, a sense of humor, rejection of self-pity, and an indomitable strength of will.

On Christmas Eve, Jeff Hayes returned home from high school hockey practice, approached his mother, and uttered these life-changing words: "Mom, I think I have a tumor in my leg." Jeff was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare and deadly form of bone cancer. Eventually, the disease would end his life, but to focus on his death is to miss the beauty of his life; it is to miss the countless lives he touched; his community rallying around him; his love of hockey and the kindness of the Boston Bruins. Twelfth Knight is a wonderful story, beautifully told through a mother's eyes. Susan recounts clinical settings amid memories of Jeff's youth with flashbacks of her own childhood growing up in a large Boston family. The story is told in the same manner in which Jeff lived his life-with courage, compassion, humor, and gratitude. Discover through Jeff's story, the high-incidence of this rare disease that strikes children, adolescents, and young adults. PRAISE FOR TWELFTH KNIGHT "Living on Cape Cod, I too, was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma a year prior to Jeff. A four-time survivor; my battle continues. Cancer did not define Jeff's life, nor will it define mine. I have overcome the adversity cancer has imposed on me by discovering the true meaning of courage and bravery from those who battled their disease beside me."-Schuyler O'Brien, PhD Student at the University of Utah Research focused on Ewing's Sarcoma "It was a privilege to know and care for Jeff. This book is a reflection of, and testament to, the love and dedication of his family and those who were lucky enough to have him as part of their lives."-Samuel C. Blackman, MD, PhD, Senior Medical Director, Juno Therapeutics, Inc. "Every single day I reflect on the time I spent with Jeff and the Sandwich Varsity Hockey Team. Jeff's courage impacted everyone, his love touched us all, and his strength paved the way for a state championship. Twelfth Knight is the moving story of one of my heroes written with the raw emotion only a mother can deliver. I wear Jeff's #12 pin on my coaching jacket and give out an annual award in his honor. Everyone needs to know Jeff's story."-Derackk Curtis, Boys' Varsity Hockey Coach Archbishop Williams High School "This is a story of great courage and love during the most painful loss a mother can experience. Jeff was a very special young man. I'm glad Susan has decided to share her story with the world."-Terry O'Reilly, Boston Bruins Alumni and NHL Coach A Portion of the Proceeds to Benefit Childhood and Adolescent Cancer Research

Fun-loving though shy at times, Shirley McCallum lived her horses - but tragedy struck when, at age 22, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. Although most people now survive this type of cancer, Shirley and her family found themselves facing a battle against overwhelming odds. Shirley was a lively, intelligent and beautiful girl with an impish sense of humour who loved her horses. We admired the way she coped with her illness, but until we read this book, we had no idea the full extent of her strength over the years of suffering. Her personality shines throughout the book, along with those of her parents. Although the book has focused on mainly Shirley's illness, her father knows that she would like to be remembered as the bubbly young blonde charging about on her pony over the hills of Lindean, with her favorite collie dog running after her. Her family remembers her this way, but they cannot forget the difficult years during which she fought her illness with such bravery. This book is a lasting testament to Shirley's courage, and now the greatest reward would be that someone who is fighting a similar battle will be inspired by her story.
