Fugitive Lawman

Dale Carnak is down on his luck in Chicago. The only company taking on men the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Desperate for employment, Carnak agrees to infiltrate the Fraser Gang and take part in robbing a train of the silver bullion it is carrying. A series of misunderstandings sees Carnak become a fugitive - on the run with the rest of the gang for robbery and murder. But there is worse to come for Carnak, as the other bandits begin to suspect that their newest recruit is not who he claims to be...

Elected for two-year terms, frontier sheriffs were the principal peace-keepers in counties that were often larger than New England states. Sheriff Thomas of the small town of Fenton's Creek is exceedingly puzzled when an elderly recluse is murdered. This first murder is followed swiftly by another and it soon seems that Fenton's Creek is at the centre of an affair which has even the government in Washington alarmed. His quest takes him into the Indian Nations, where he receives help of the most unexpected and surprising nature.

Jed Harker wishes for nothing more than to mind his own business while travelling north to Kansas. In the summer of 1861 though, men and women were taking sides all across the United States and Harker finds himself compelled to declare where he stands on slavery. The result is that he finds himself fleeing through the Indian Nations; helping a family of escaping slaves to freedom. With war about to break out, it will be a race against time for Harker and his wards, as they become embroiled in the opening shots of the War Between the States.

When Marshal Brent McAllister is told by the doctor that he has less than a year to live, he decides that he will not wait passively for death to overtake him. Instead, he determines to hunt down and dispose of the worst men in the state; vicious and depraved criminals, whom the law cannot touch. It is McAllister's expectation that in the course of this quest, he may find a quick and easy death from a bullet, rather than a lingering end in a hospital bed.
